Prior to adding any trims to the door, use a small piece of trim, attach it to the door with double stick tape on the hinge side and check to see that the door opens. It might not! Attaching trim to the door is more than just cutting the trim, no? I can give you a more detailed set of instructions if you decide to go that route...but I'm for painting the wardrobe (and all the woodwork in the room) white.

sorry haven't been on here much and havent had time or money to much about my room but should be getting to work in the next few weeks/month. I've added some more photos to give a better idea of the layout of the room and the dimensions. the first one is a view from the bed or the foot of the bed, so you can see the wall space isn't massive. The horrible curtains are waiting to be changed when I get all the work done! The second photo is the other wall to show where the door to the room is. Carolyn the wardrobe in the photo there is the one I'm going to put in the nook and then I was thinking of getting a carpenter to build shelving on the wall where the wardrobe currently is. Around the bed then would be more storage and shelves either side to act as bedside tables. As anyone any ideas for the type of shelving I should be looking to get built? I would be looking to hold - clothes that wouldn't be hanging like jumpers, t-shirts etc. I would definitely need an area for books/magazines, an area for toiletries and maybe then storage for items such as bed linen, blankets and random items like chargers for phones, laptops etc.

Tall ceilings and fussy wardrobe solutions

Moving in soon and want to revamp this north facing bedroom (see photo below) which has super high ceilings and a fussy built in wardrobe with too much detailing. Was thinking to paint the ceiling darker perhaps to the top of wardrobe right around the room and change knobs/paint wardrobe same as walls (something warm but neutral). Will ditch the curtains too! Thoughts or other ideas?!

Hi Con, I just saw your question. I have 3 ideas, il add pictures below. 1 - I love the idea of a platform reading nook with built-in storage at the bottom. 2 - You could build a custom desk and use it as a home office 3 - Have custom built in wardrobes made to fit the space.
