Arch shaped feature ideas needed

Hi, we have an arch shaped space at the top of our landing that leads to an arch shaped window. We are looking for a feature to fill it. I’ve looked at glass bricks (too heavy) and fused glass (quite expensive). We would like to keep the light but need to “fill the hole”. Any wonderful ideas would be gratefully received! Julie

Polycarbonate? Or maybe look on Etsy for someone who makes stained glass panels?

I’d looked on Etsy for fused glass but not stained. What do you mean by polycarbonate? Like perspex?

Hi, you have a lovely home! I read through your thread, and I like Dar Eckarts suggestion above the best. I think because of the symmetry of it as an H shaped house is symmetrical, and it would also keep the space looking decorated but still open and uncluttered which is what an entrance should be. Sorry, but I don't care for the bookcase idea in an entrance. I also noticed the masks you have, and think it would be great to decorate the space using them as inspiration. Here is a photo to show you the kind of rug I think would work here.

Hi there, It's always difficult working out the best place for a fireplace and indeed a tv but what I would ask is why have you opted for an L-Shaped extension? Have you got lots of constraints on the land or the garden? Long and thin extensions can always be a problem as they lack the width to create nice spaces without bottle necks or furniture blocking circulation and people movement. One of the things you will have to think about is the venting or flue / chimney and then there's the regulations about the stove being a minimum distance away from combustible materials. It would be nice to be able to look at the burner while you're facing into the garden so maybe a wall on the patio side to break up the glass doors and then add more light in from above to make it a little cosier. Sometimes too much glass can feel / look cold. The TV is always a problem but I suggest again to possible mount it on a wall but remember if you have the screen facing all that glass you will get reflection problems. Maybe you need to make a feature wall out of slate or stone that would have the wood burning stove against it and the TV offset a little on the same wall. Then have your glass doors either side so when you're sat on your sofa you can see the garden / patio all while sat in front of your stove and viewing the tv. Its a difficult one all in all but if you have the opportunity to alter the L shape and make at least one leg of it slightly wider it may give you a better option for the burner, sofa and the cosiness without the feel of a long thin room with not many passing places. Just a couple of suggestions but as I can see the design brief or land size / constraints etc I might be a little off the mark. Cheers. Simon www.scdc.biz

White-out or pops of colour?

I think a few options. You can either layer whites or choose a neutral in different shades of the same colour or a few coordinating neutrals then use throughout the house, sometimes on all the walls, some for a feature wall etc. then you can either add the same pop of colour throughout or choose a few that coordinate. If you have an open plan room, maybe one end go for a wall in x colour and the other have a chair in a coordinating colour and tie it together with a cushion in x colour. I'd keep woodwork the same colour. Colour can just be in the accessories or furniture rather than on the wall too. It is your home so the interior should reflect you, if you do go predominantly white with a few colour feature walls they can be easily be painted when sold. This may be a little extreme but you could also pick just 3 colours. I love navy, white and hot pink at the moment and you can give rooms different looks. Paint the doors black matt and the fames cream add silver crome door furniture. Huge silver mirror above the covered radiator then add a runner of any colour you like and match it with the lamps and lighting. hey presto done.

Just get a tempered glass window there if you want to keep it. I’d put a bookcase in front of it with a lamp on top for light.

Ask your local glazier to cut some glass for the aperture. This picture shows it opening but they can fix it in place instead

There is an 18” gap between the space and the actual window but I like this idea
