Can you share what tile you used for the fireplace surround? I need to order for my place this coming week. This is beautiful.

Hi Travis and SoYoung - thanks for mentioning the fireplace.....I was thinking that I would keep it simple with a wood shelf over it and a large piece of Art but I now think it might be a bit lost. Would love some ideas as it needs to work with the built-ins which are slightly domineering. Also, Liam_Boyle - agree re the unbalance. The TV will be staying but I have a lovely coffee table and 2 identical sofas coming so I'm hoping to lay out symmetrically in the room. Will keep 1 of the chairs. Hope this will balance up. Thanks.

Wow, I didn't expect so many responses, thank you so much for your time and ideas. I do know that the art is wrong but had to put something up from our last house while we settle in. I do find the fireplace a bit un-friendly and so I would consider changing the colour of it even just the border of it like one of the photos shows. I'm not keen on the small computer cabinet or the ladder shelving I have to admit. I was thinking more of putting 3 full width cherry wood shelves, bottom one being wider and desk height, changing the light fittings to down lights and maybe having a wallpaper or painted backdrop behind the shelves?? I realise I would have to get rid of or change the wallpaper on the other wall and change the curtains too. I take your point, many of you said it, about the curtains needing to fall straight, but I will need a wider pole to do that. Again many thanks, AnnaMarie ps we are in Ireland now but lived in australia for many years and that picture over the mantle is of an old aussie shed with moon light on it.

I have a dilemma with wallpaper. There is a 3 seater dark navy sofa with matching chaired, a wooden fireplace surround and a bay window in the room. The fireplace and skirting boards are going to be painted cream. I don't know what wallpaper to put on the fireplace wall to warm up the room a bit. Main colour scheme is silvery grey paint, very dark couch and chairs and black. Photos attached.

All depends what your room set up is like and also what your taste is. At the moment the trend is leaning more towards darker undertones and monochromatic colour schemes. White would go with everything - cream not really advisable- marble is a common fall back for most people. What material is the fireplace surround made of at present and for clarify, are we talking about the fireplace itself or the internal surround only?
