Fireplace colour

I am trying to decide whether to install a white or cream/beige marble fireplace. Is one of these colours more in fashion? Would anyone have made this decision and can advise?

All depends what your room set up is like and also what your taste is.

At the moment the trend is leaning more towards darker undertones and monochromatic colour schemes.

White would go with everything - cream not really advisable- marble is a common fall back for most people.

What material is the fireplace surround made of at present and for clarify, are we talking about the fireplace itself or the internal surround only?

thanks ... They are both marble. One is a fairly standard plain white one, and the cream one appears to show white flecks.

I'd definitely put some kind of stone on the walls, all the way to the ceiling. I think the gas fireplace that you have is really cute, but might look at a stone slab on the floor instead of the mat that is there now. I'd take stone inside of that alcove as well, whether matching or contrasting. You can still hang art above, on top of the stone. It would really make the room!

If you want the look of the fireplace you posted but are scared that the dark grey will flood your room, you could paint just the one panel/side wall with the grey, paint the fireplace frame white, and then paint the rest of the room a more light neutral colour. It will also create a more contemporary look and create more focus to your fireplace. Alternatively you may feel more safe to paint the fireplace frame a neutral colour to match the neutral walls. When you are ready to replace the fireplace, I would suggest a bio ethanol burner as a simple solution with minimal DIY work and an option of different styles. I love your room, but it isn't done! Find some jazzy art to hang over the fireplace in vibrant colors. Select a major and minor color from the art work and add pillows, and 3 accessories that are LARGE to place on three places in the book shelves. If you like what you see at that point you are probably done, but if not then I think a glass and steel cocktail table round or oval would add sparkle, interest, and function to your room.....it really looks nice.

Do you have any pictures of the room? Cream Marble i'd say is a bit of a no,no and quite dated. If we could see the room, it would give a better idea

Sure and thanks for the advice... it is a blank canvas and 'standard' sort of room.

The room would be west south west facing. It is bigger than looks in the photo.
