Paint Design Dilemma Bedrooms

Colour palette for mahogany furniture?

I'm redecorating my bedroom and the furniture I've got to work with is mahogany coloured Italian furniture; a bed, 2 cabinets, a dressing table and wardrobe. Unsure of what colours to pair it with? I want to wallpaper one wall and paint the others. The carpet is also a dark brown so I don't want to go too dark with the walls or so bright that the walls are too stark. Thanks in advance :)

I would also definitely go white if the windows are on the green wall. Will be much more natural to tie the accent wall with the stark wht contrasting walls. Always a very chic contemporary look. Also very relaxing as opposed to the treatments standing out when you already have your standout feature- the green accent wall. Great white bed you ordered! Then I love all the blue/green/ silver accent advice. I did a similar room in purples/greys/ whites and we used great posted prints of florals with a little oriental flair in nice big mats w frames. You could do florals or nice big botanicals in greens would be very fresh and modern!! White or silver frames or maybe even the shock of black would be cool.

What I'm actually wondering though is about mixing the metals - so having the chandelier and lamps with the touch of silver - or would I be better to source antique brass lamps like I have in some other rooms in the house - I kind of wanted to feature quite a bit of glass, and generally the glass comes with chrome, but I'm not sure if it's too modern for the sideboard etc, and mores worried about the clash of metals, but something tells me it might be ok in this instance! I have chrome taps and rainfall shower head in new bathroom and kept with antique brass for the light fittings and door/press knobs. Also yes the room is small but that's not an issue - it is what it is and I'm fine with it!

The real coloured sofa would be a lot more versatile to restyle in a few years. The yellow colour lends itself to a more limited palette to work with when restyling. Hope that helps.

I agree calm neutrals look nice. You could go colonial with shutters, floaty muslin curtains, lots of tropical plants. Tropical wallpaper with ferns and birds would tie in well. Here’s some ideas

Hi, all. So taking in everyone's points, I came up with perhaps painting all the walls in Dulux's Commercial White and having a navy blue wallpaper on the chimney wall where the bed will go.

I've got a photo of the wallpaper I have in mind; do you think there is too much going on and I should stick to a plain navy patterned one, or navy paint?

Here is a photo I took of what it would look like, using the Dulux website, keep in mind the coving in my room is white and the skirting boards are brown, as opposed to the picture given :)

I think a large, leafy green plant in a corner and a gold framed piece of art against this wall would also look good, maybe? Or should I just stick to all white walls?

Most of our suggestions are soft neutrals. Your wallpaper choice is quite rich and dramatic - gorgeous paper but not sure how it would tie in with the look. Hmmm I think we need emergency help from some more Houzzers! Anyone out there? 😊

Sonia - thank you for the feedback. Perhaps I will stick to just the Commercial White on all the walls instead of adding the navy :) It is quite a bold colour, so maybe I can just add some navy accessories instead around the room.

Superbolter - Thank you very much for the picture, it's made the picture much more clearer in my head. You're right, they don't really compliment each other well, whereas the first comment you posted before with the cream and white walls looks better and gives the room a wider and airy feel. May I ask what software you used for this picture? Many thanks for your advice :)

Rinq - Thanks for your suggestion :) Most photos I've seen of rooms with brown furniture tend to have lighter flooring, as you suggest. However, the one we have is practically brand new so I'm hoping to work with it :)

I really like the 'spanish' calm look, with offwhite, pale greige, neutrals.

If your style is more of a bold classical; pastel blues, greens and yellows could work too.

Jameite - I am yet to delve into choosing the wallpaper, but I am hoping to have the main wall behind the bed wallpapered, so will look into that, thank you :) it does sound very nice.

Have you considered Benjamin Moore Barren Plain? It’s a near neutral colour which sits just into the Yellow Hue Family. (See the colorography below by The Land of Color). It sits well with the richness of the mahogany colours.

But this colour would need to be considered & sampled within your space in order to see the effect of light upon it. This is because all low chroma (near neutral) colours from this section of the color wheel are prone to shifting purple in imbalanced light. They aren’t purple and don’t have purple ‘undertones’, it’s just a phenomenon of light and context.

However in a reasonably balanced light, they will look just as their color notations in the colorography describes them.
