Kitchen cabinet color ? Kitchen remodel.
Can't decide on cabinet color. We want a stained wood, not painted. New island can be same or contrasting color. The trim in our home is a fruit wood stain. We will put in a lighter color granite on counters and island. I was thinking of cherry wood color cabs and grey island? Any ideas, photos are welcome. Thanks.

Comments (8)I painted my kitchen three years ago, and I love it. It's hard work and can take some weeks to do. You need to take doors off, remove the hinges and handles. Remember you need to prime and paint two coats on each side, so for a door that equates to six coats of paint and letting each coat dry. I used Mylands of London paint, I'm just hooked on this paint as the eggshell is dead flat with only 8 percent sheen, you wont get another paint any flatter. And if the paints good enough for Downtown Abbey, then it's good enough for us. I would hold back on painting wall tiles, as they are white and look fine , paint the cupboards first and see what it looks like. Comments (5)Why not simply fill the gap. A simply straight board like the kickboard at the base or bottom point where the cabinets meet the floor can be inserted. This can even be enhanced by using a cornice type finish and if you wish add a bit of colour to complement your kitchen . 3 years agoI see you have been receiving suggestions not to do cherry cabinets and I would have to agree but sometimes you have reasons beyond the obvious to want something against all odds. So here goes. I would suggest not cherry but doing a maple or alder wood with a pale natural finish. These two woods are naturally pale. Then have a glaze put on, that will pull in your trim color. (I would paint all the trim white in a heartbeat) That would be a way of modernizing and lightening up at the same time. I would also do away with the wood 1/2 wall around the island, you do not need any separation to the eating area, and do a warm taupe paint finish that would pick up on the cabinet stain on the island. Then do a light quartz counter. This will bring in the white without having painted cabinets.
