kitchen refresh needed- new wall and cabinet paint

Hi there, I'm looking for advise on choosing a wall and cabinet colour for my kitchen. Hate the existing decor. The cream floor tiles are staying, I'm planning on painting the wall tiles with tile paint. Everything else can go! Looking to create a fun and vibrant atmosphere in the dining section so was thinking of a feature wall there. The kitchen gets a lot of natural light. Any ideas? Thanks!

I painted my kitchen three years ago, and I love it. It's hard work and can take some weeks to do.
You need to take doors off, remove the hinges and handles.
Remember you need to prime and paint two coats on each side, so for a door that equates to six coats of paint and letting each coat dry.

I used Mylands of London paint, I'm just hooked on this paint as the eggshell is dead flat with only 8 percent sheen, you wont get another paint any flatter. And if the paints good enough for Downtown Abbey, then it's good enough for us.

I would hold back on painting wall tiles, as they are white and look fine , paint the cupboards first and see what it looks like.

I choose Myalnds paint and had the colour mixed in a farrow and ball blue green. See photos.

I think the cabinets would look nice in shades of blue or turquoise. Clear the clutter and use the shelves for an attractive arrangement of your favourite items. A coastal look could be nice here, or maybe a shabby chic effect using different pastels. Its a nice kitchen already, just needs an injection of your own personality

I recently painted mine "cedar key" by BM in satin impervo, then glazed them using BM studio finishes alkyd glaze with a little SW urbane bronze mixed in. Then used wipe on polyurethane.

Ok, first of all I think we have very similar tastes because I looked at the pics you tagged in your idea books, but this layout is not efficient at all. your working triangle is non existent and I think there is way too much crowded in one corner. The island is staring out into nothing, and definitely needs to be rotated 90 degrees and I think the shape looks like something you would see in a bar. I am currently doing my own kitchen in two shades of painted cabinetry and will post my drawings and actual images, and then some images that you might like. I think the sink and DW need to be in the island. The fridge needs to be integrated to avoid this much stainless steel since you clearly like a more eclectic, non modern look, and the hood can be more elaborate. I personally think a 48" range with a dramatic hood on that back will with the island turned the correct way will be a nice focal point for your kitchen. You could also do a microwave drawer in your island, that way you only see the range from the front. Also, where is your pantry? Where are you storing food? The second image is a range hood you will probably like The third and fourth are drawings of my kitchen, and the first is a painted on painted kitchen with whimsy you might like. I will attach photos of my project on an additional feed since 4 photos is the limit.

Hi Louise, Lovely new kitchen, such a lovely bright space too. I would suggest going a couple of shades darker than the kitchen furniture colour so you get a contrast to the furniture and flooring. This will help keep it on a neutral palette so your other furniture and accessories are not competing with too many colours. Also as your room as so much natural light you can go for a slightly stronger wall colour and it will look superb. the photo below shows a very cool grey wall you could go for a warmer grey but it give you an idea of what you could do. Painting the walls can always be changed relatively easily, so if you want a change after a few years you can and it's a lot less costly than a new kitchen! I’ve been struggling to pick a color for weeks and I need to make a decision soon so hoping you can advise! I’m getting a new full wall tv unit built into my sitting room to replace an old ikea tv unit there presently, it will have presses at the bottom, space in the middle for wall mounting a tv, and shelves all around. It will come up to the ceiling and will have spotlights at the top. (sketch attached) I need to pick a color from the Farrow and Ball catalog. I’m trying to find a color that works well with what I have already. There is no other furniture in the room yet other than a couch as this is a new house and we only just moved in a couple of months ago, so I’m trying to match it to the walls, floors and the couch! I’ve attached some pictures. Our walls are supposedly Elephant Breath (but the builders used a cheaper alternative I believe). I have some purple in the room (sofa cushions and a rug). There is a large bay window on one side of the room and opposite to it a glass double door into the kitchen area. All doors, skirting boards, and coving are white. I really don’t want to pick white and would like a bit of contrast, but not sure if I should go lighter or darker than the wall. Any help really appreciated! Thanks in advance!

A pale duck egg blue would be lovely. A neighbour of mine has this colour and it's fab.

Get rid of the wallpaper and go for a bright paint colour for around the dining area. You could go bold citrus or something elegant like farrowing and ball's elephant's breath. Floating shelves would look great above table with some interesting art alongside. Bench seating at inside of table would declutter the nook. As for cabinets, the colour isn't bad and is nice and neutral meaning you could go bolder with paint on walls. but I'd definitely update the knobs. If you wanted a change you could go pale grey.

Go for a colour like this. It give your kitchen some character without being too strong.

This one's by Schmidt (in W6), but I'm sure you could find similar versions near you...

I agree with hoveyvonne. In my last house I painted about 12 cupboard doors - IT IS HARD WORK - don't do it. I changed mine to the colour you already have. I then changed the work top, the tiles and the knobs - made a world of difference.

I like your cupboards as they are. They look very country style, so how about covering the tiles with wooden cladding and paint it a similar colour to the cupboards? Also cladding or half cladding in the dining area would look lovely, but obviously a bit of work. Otherwise paint the walls a soft stoney gray - Egyptian Cotton by Dulux is lovely and so much cheaper than Farrow & Ball. Would look nice with your dining table and chairs. Painting tiles isn't great, not very hard wearing. Remove them with a chisel and get a tiler to replace the tiles. Metro tiles are still in vogue and come in so many colours - Aqua or duck egg would look good. Wish you lots of luck with your project.
