Help with main bedroom / WIR / ensuite floorplan please
After using our main bedroom as a storage room for a few years during renos, we are ready to tackle an update/redesign with your help and would love to hear any ideas you have.
Currently it is a large room (around 5820mm x 4490mm) with a tiny outdated ensuite in one corner (approx 2300mm x 900mm), and built in frameless mirrored robe next to it.

So far I have come up with a possible plain design which keeps the bed out of the flow of doorways for feng shui. Not sure on the proportions ie shower size vs vanity for e.g.
I have no particular style in mind, so what would you do??
The 2 large windows on the right face West and there is a small higher window in the shower.
The garage is underneath so there is access to change plumbing if needed....
Any suggestions, redesign and/or style ideas would be appreciated

Comments (16)About your plumber saying "plumb layout is confirmed". That is a load of rubbish. It's fairly easy to move drains around (yes he might have to rip up some walls, but he can also do off-the-wall installations to avoid that). In a small bath proper placement is of the utmost importance!!! If you have the bathtub and shower next to each other that will be much better and then the glass separator idea should work. padmaramachandran's (see post above) setup sounds more reasonable to me as well (see first picture below). This is similar to your setup but as you have more space you could put in bath tub and shower where the picture only shows a bath tub. Also if you do it that way you could theoretically have a bidet or a wider wash basin (small double perhaps too). Example layout: Do you need a bathtub in the guest bath? If not you have a lot more room to work with. E.g. for a double wash basin and large walking shower and a bidet (2nd picture). Example of off-the-wall installation for toilet and bidet and a large walking shower. Finally if you ignore this advice and do it the way you planned ;) then I suggest you really thing about that glass separator. Doing it right will make a lot of difference (see 3rd picture). Comments (10)You could create an ensuite by borrowing space from the second bedroom, accessing it from the master. I would create one large luxury family bathroom by joining the current bathroom and the adjoining room into one. If you don't want to lose a room, you could swap the purpose of the two rooms, creating a medium sized bathroom and a small box room/study (expensive for some benefit). Lastly, if you really want to maintain the number of rooms but gain a bigger bathroom, you could move the family bathroom to the bottom, right-hand room, if plumbing allows. Comments (1)Congratulations on the new digs! :-) Pick your bedding first. From the bedding, pick a light neutral for the walls to play off the dark wood. You can have paint mixed to exactly match! Then, use another color in the bedding, if present, as your accent color. Usually, the best mix is 60% the main color, 30% the secondary color, and 10% a pop of a 3rd color. So it would be nice to get some gems of advice from the experts to help us through this daunting task. Areas where we would really like some inspiration for - small bathroom downstairs. I would really like to do something fun with this room and although small, I think it could work really well with some funky wallpaper or possibly tiles?! I'm just not sure what to do with it. Also - pulling a whole house together?! Where do we start? We have the bigger pieces of furniture but how do I know what nest of tables goes best with a suite? Or what accessories will bring a room together? I'm due a second baby in 2 weeks time so any help at this stage would be so amazing - to guide me on the right interior design path for our new house. I agree with the door at the end of the bed being a better and more convenient position.
Originally I had not included it there to access some of the light from the other window (obscure glass slider), and to avoid the feng shui coffin position with feet facing the door. On further reading I might be able to remedy it with a tall solid bed-end and blanket box/bench.
I can see how walking through the WIR each time would be a pain.
An alternate ensuite plan (below) as also suggested by Leeder Interiors.
I wasn't sure if I had enough room for this... it would get me a larger vanity 1200+ rather than 900.
Not sure however what:- the recommended distances from the vanity front and toilet should be ?
- minimum width i need to have for the toilet space (between the wall and slider opening) ?

If not, the extra bench space over the cistern also sounds like a good idea.

4 years agoPersonally, because it isn't big and two people will struggle in there, I would have the towel rail where loo is, with a double vanity, where will it go?

4 years agolast modified: 4 years agoanother option to consider..although extra costs moving plumbing..with double vanity and cubicle shower...open space between fixtures is 900 (similar width to standard hallway) but includes double vanity and, depending on height and width of bigger window, there could be other possibilities but this idea may have a more appealing location for the door into the wiw

4 years agoHi JosieLand, Here is a suggestions. I would definitely make a bigger window because you can in the ensuite by putting shower other side.
The alternative suggestion is to have vanity directly ahead sort of in the robe space and just loo and shower in the little room. It works a treat for two to share the space.
And not knowing window positions at the front of house the shelving etc may need some creativity!
