A large basement project in need of a refurb-please help!
This room will be completely stripped out in order to start afresh. We are looking to turn the area into a bar/ chill out area. The carpet will be removed and the walls repainted. We need some ideas and help as to what we can to to maximise this area. The bar will preferably be installed towards the end with the staircase (leading to a kitchen). Looking to install a flatscreen tv and other furniture. Any help would be much appreciated.
The measurements are approximately 25ftx10.5ft- I sometimes picture this space as having a partition in the middle, there are suggestions to decorate the space with corrugated iron on the walls around the bar and make use of some used coffee bags in a barista space- I will be installing some speakers in the ceiling too.

Comments (20)It seems that 2 story houses are becoming much more the norm here. At least in the metro areas. People are wanting bigger houses and builders can get more house on less land. Mattresses, box springs and dressers have to be the WORST things to get up stairs ;-) I love the look of staircases and love the view a 2nd story provides. Comments (11)Hi PCmom, sstarr and lefty47. Thanks a million for the comments and views. I'm taking it all on board. PCmom I like the frosted glass idea but I think it will block too much light. We are actually thinking of doing this though in our front sitting room as the window is floor to ceiling. Love the recycled lumber idea and it looks great in the photo - think my husband is hell bent on steel shelving though. sstarr - I'm gonna have a look at your profile pics now but I don't think we will have enough wall space for floor to ceiling pantry. lefty47 we are keeping the appliances for now. It is only the oven - its not the prettiest but its functional and we will most definitely get a new fitted one in the future. There are a few other pictures there of the room around and the left wall - can you not see them? If not I can try and add them again. I'm glad you liked the toilet paper. It took me ages to decide where to place that! What does everyone think about colours of the cabinets? I think we might go for a neutral tone on the wall (unless anyone can visualise anything better?) and either with the steel shelving or possibly the recycles ,lumber idea from PCmom? Comments (17)I understand what you want to do, so here's my suggestion, if it fits.....I'd move the couch under the mirror. Move table to the center of the kitchen, like an island. Sounds like it's two adults and two toddlers, so I'd definitely remove two of those chairs. Are your kids in high-chairs, if so move the other two chairs out too. Basically you want four chairs not six. Move them to a garage, basement or another room. Put the chairs around two or three sides of the table. I'd leave the side near the stove and washing machine(?) open. TV would mount to the right of the back door. See if that would work. Either way, it's going to be a tight space. Comments (25)Wow, I didn't expect so many responses, thank you so much for your time and ideas. I do know that the art is wrong but had to put something up from our last house while we settle in. I do find the fireplace a bit un-friendly and so I would consider changing the colour of it even just the border of it like one of the photos shows. I'm not keen on the small computer cabinet or the ladder shelving I have to admit. I was thinking more of putting 3 full width cherry wood shelves, bottom one being wider and desk height, changing the light fittings to down lights and maybe having a wallpaper or painted backdrop behind the shelves?? I realise I would have to get rid of or change the wallpaper on the other wall and change the curtains too. I take your point, many of you said it, about the curtains needing to fall straight, but I will need a wider pole to do that. 4 years agoA corner bar looks like it is feasible allowing you to have bar stools in front. This together with a soft seating area facing a wall mounted television would be a great chill out area.
I really like your ideas for using corrugated steel and you could also go with other upcycled type materials.
This was a project that I did in Moscow which gives you an idea of how much fun you can have with your space :-

4 years agoThe best space for a bar would be in the back. Enough space to walk around, have a 2ft deep countertop next to the fridge:
But since a large corner sofa is great and I bet your tv won't be small-ish, I´d suggest this bar layout:
Where's the doorway in the back leading to?
