Paint colour help.

Hi everyone. I have just purchased a new apartment it is located in Queensland Australia. I am wanting to ask for some help with choosing paint colours for the living room. The room is a little awkward because it doesn’t get direct sunlight. The sun it does get comes from an attached sunroom that gets a couple of hours of sun in the morning, and then from the kitchen that gets a little bit of sun in the afternoon. The living room itself doesn’t have any windows directly outside. This in itself doesn’t bother me too much it remains cool with no direct sun, which is a big consideration for my climate. I tried a few whites on the wall and liked Dulux Lexicon Half, but I am now thinking if something like Timeless Grey or Grey Pail might look better? Or even Malay Grey? I prefer neutrals, but not fan of yellow tones.

Photos are marketing photos and not my furniture. Also, I was thinking to lime the floorboards, I feel they make the room quite red. Any thoughts?

Yes, the red of the floor with compete with a grey. You could go for green grey which would sit with the floor, or as you say lime the floor.

Had you thought about getting rid of the wall between the living / dining and the sun room, so much nicer to have one large space with natural light.

It's difficult to pick colours over the internet, simply because the colours will look different on every screen, plus, the colours will not look the same in every home. It's a question of getting tester pots and just trying them i'm afraid.

If you didn’t want to knock through, you could always look to add some high cutout windows which will bring the light in more from the other rooms. Mirror also bounce any light around.

I think I would start with the floor if that is a definate change ie lime it then start getting paint samples up to see what works with your light.

I love dark walls and I think your hall with the shiny floors and the right finish on the wall make it special. You already have the wrought iron, which definitely dictates a certain look. I hesitate to recommend a specific color from my monitor, but look at the BM colors in the 1037’s through the 1078’s and see if there is something there which looks good with the tile.

Hi Maria. It's a lovely kitchen and I must admit I like the white so would probably change the accessories. I would add a huge sunburst clock or mirror above the cabinets (can't work out if it's a clock or mirror above the fire). Add a statement light over the table. Try a coloured splashback behind the cabinets. Add some coloured stools. I would say paint the kitchen chairs but I can see they are good quality! If you do want to paint then either blues, violets or even a very soft grey if you add some coloured accesories. Do make sure the colour blends with the lounge though as you can obviously see through.

I have just had a dark north facing narrow entrance hall painted in Great White (F&B) and the inside of a stained glass hall door painted Lace Glove (Colourtrend) . I do not like the effect of the 'ice white' look from the Great White around the door and have now asked the painter to paint just that area with a deeper pink colour (Romance by Fleetwood) to match one of the colours in the stained glass. I now think it looks too pink! Another sample pot which I haven't used but very similar colour is Cinder Rose (F&B). Any suggestions as to what would warm up the area surrounding the hall door? Sorry I overlooked your question about the island. I don't know if it should be a contrasting colour because as I see it, the main feature of your kitchen is the gorgeous range. If you paint the island to match it, then the range will lose its impact. If it were my kitchen, I'd match the island to the other cabinets. If you were starting over, you could have had it made in stained wood, but with it already existing it requires a painted finish.

I would also take some of the colour from the floor. What colour is your furniture etc re paint colours as I would choose that first? I get confused re the light as you're in Australia but I think you need warmer neutrals as those greys are quite cool and dark so white or a lighter grey with brown undertones, red etc. Having said that maybe you don't want something too warm given the climate so choose something that isn't overly warm or cool! It's a hard one to answer for us in the UK!
