Which grey paint??? Recommendations welcome!

A friend I'm helping redecorate her hallway right now is set on a grey paint - she has a couple of samples that are a light blue/grey but these won't work so well with her stained glass door. I think we need a truer grey but still keep it light - her hallway is West facing and due to the porch is a dark space we need to brighten. It's easy to drown in grey paint and our timescale is tight as she's booked her painted. Has anyone used anything recently they'd recommend? I wondered about Misty Grey by Johnstones but I'm tempted to go lighter still. Anyone? The picture is of her door right now so we will pull some of those colours into the scheme somewhere.

My friend recently had some of her sitting room painted in Polished Pebble by Dulux and it’s lovely. I do think light levels can really change a paint colour. In the examples below it is much lighter in the bright hallway, but darker in the stairs and landing.

I love Johnstones paint. Wouldn’t use anything else. They can also match to Farrow & Ball colours etc. They do a sample tin. It’s a nice little sized tin (and it is a tin, not one of those Dulux plastic things) and as I’m a regular I get mine for £3 or £3.50 (can’t recall). I would get them to do a couple of sample tins. Perhaps have a word with some long standing member of staff to get their opinion. Our local manager is Sandra. She’s been there many many years and has a good eye for detail.

Hi snan - to address your questions: 1 - yes, the lamps work very well. With regard to the height of the larger lamps: do you know how high they would be? If the bottom of the lampshade is even with the top of the pillows that should work. If they are taller than that I think you will be okay with the smaller lamps. Look back again at some of the pictures above to see what I mean. The thing that will look odd would be if the top of the lamps were taller than your headboard. The idea is that when you are in bed reading a book that you want the light to be able to reflect down. As far as the lampshade size goes on the smaller lamps I'm thinking the shorter ones since they don't seem to drop down as far as the larger ones. 2 & 3-Definitely chair by the mirrored bedside locker with one white locker on the other side. Without question. The chair to the left of the bed gave the room life. Use the extra white one in a closet or another room. You don't want to overcrowd your room when you are going for a tranquil setting. 4-Absolutely okay to have bedside tables that don't match and look good in the room. Whether or not you like that is a personal preference though. I would only put the mirrored one next to the bed though if you have the chair next to it. It's how they play off each other that makes it work. If you don't keep the chair next to the bed then I would use both white tables beside the bed. It is also fine that the pictures are off-centre to the wall as long as they are centered to the bed. :)

That is true alright, though even with a patterned carpet they usually keep a mat for people to wipe their feet on by the door, or if people like to remove boots or shoes when entering ( not that common here) but great idea. The trouble with the patterned carpet was if anything fell on the floor you could hardly find it !!

A15) @Dara Cooke: If you can't afford a quartz or granite worktop from day one then I would recommend using a laminate worktop as a temporary solution. If you don't put tiles up as a backsplash then replacing the worktops can be relatively easy in a couple of years.
