Hi, I think I’d still look for a tv unit or low sideboard even if the tv will be wall mounted. Something that’s wider than what you have currently. There is a huge amount of options when it comes to style but here’s a few ideas. You could also look at second hand sites (ebay, gumtree etc.) for a retro style sideboard. They are gaining in price due to the popularity of MCM (mid century modern) but there are still some bargains to be had...plus they have lots of room for toy stashing:)
I agree you can achieve this look with ikea besta. We have done exactly this and when we have replaced our flooring, we are going to wall-mount the besta units and add a bespoke cut oak top (thinking maybe kitchen worktop cut to size?) with recessed lighting beneath. You can make all sorts of shapes using various combinations of besta units and they store loads of toys. Here are some pics to show where this has been done.
