Run off issues?

At the back of this bed is very sharp drop from the lawn into the bed. How do you stop water running along the channel in heavy rains and washing the mulch away? I have a similar bed and every time we have heavy rains the water spills from the lawn into the bed and runs through the channel, taking mulch with it to the lawn below. Frustrating!

The trench between bed and lawn was intentional so that runoff would not wash away good garden soil in the planting bed. There's actually large gravel in that trench that you can't see. The mulch is a very thin application for cosmetic purposes and does sometimes wash in very heavy rain. Client did not want to see the gravel thus the thin layer of mulch. The gravel helps the mulch to "stick". The washing of mulch wasn't an issue for client because she had a weekly "gardener" on staff to replace it when needed, which wasn't often. FYI - there's also steel edging about 8" off of the grass that separates the gravel trench from bed as an extra deterrent for the runoff water.

I concur with the above comment: Just have archways installed rather than doors - not only will it be more open but it will be less costly... ...tho to open the living room even more, consider relocating the LR fireplace to the opposite wall and centering a larger archway to the hall opposite it - where the fireplace is located now. I might also consider installing an archway or doorway to the left of the fireplace in the sitting room - It will make your sitting room less of a dead end and passage to your study, kitchen and powder room more direct.

I'm not sure if your walls are a "peachy" earth tone????...."if" so orange/turquoise are really in right now and could certainly brighten it up for you....I've recently gone through the same thing with our home in FLA ....the walls are a yellow + pale turquoise accents but adding orange/red to the room would have been the last thing I would ever have thought of + we centered the light fixture so that it was centered on the wall and not off to one side like the previous owner had it....you can see from the "before and after" pics what a huge difference it made...one thing leads to the next....the new chair covers I made a huge difference too but it was quite the job!....I didn't add a lot of orange/red but to us it made a huge difference

I had this issue and my builder came up with the following solution He drylined the whole external wall of the bathroom until it came flush with the end of the bath. I now have a very very thick external wall. It's covered in panelling which i love! Its full of insulation and the bathroom is now really warm. It looks very slick and neat without any messy spots. I have a very deep windowsill which is full of wicker baskets and plants. And then theres an inbuilt alcove into this thick wall which contains my shampoos etc etc. Its taken a good bit of space out of the room but the room is warmer... looks neater and has more storage

Radiator paint not sticking to bare metal patch

I bought V33 Renovation White Satinwood Radiator & Appliance paint in Liffey Valley B & Q to patch up an area on central heating radiator where paint had flaked off to the bare metal. I asked for paint that had in-built primer and was given this, as it states on the tin that "2-in-1 paint which requires no undercoat. High Adhesion for direct to metal application". I scraped off the flaky paint and sanded down to smooth finish and washed, dried and applied the paint to this and surrounding area. When I looked at it an hour later I noticed the paint wasn't sticking to the bare metal area, it just ran off it. So with the brush that had now half dried tacky paint on it I dabbed the paint on this area and it covered it, but 15 mins later it had run off it again. I repeated this several times but same result. I went back to shop and showed photo of this to the girl I bought it off and she suggested it needed a specific primer, even though the tin said it contained it already. So I bought a small thin of Fortress Special Metals Primer. I sanded down, washed, dried and applied primer, but exact same thing happened. I allowed to dry for an hour and applied again with tacky half dried paint and it seemed to take but again after leaving 20 mins you see that it eventually runs off and isn't sticking to the bare metal like it is supposed to! What to do next?
