It makes me cross that people think they have a right to make some quite negative comments on this post. Masmccar76 put these photos on because she thought people would like to see a genuinely lovely transformation of her garden. Instead there have been some downright nasty comments. By all means make comments but keep them constructive. Houzz is all about is sharing ideas, not about being nasty

It is a gorgeous room with lovely features. I would second Minnie's colour choices, I have Farrow & Ball Pale Powder in my bedroom and it is a gorgeous colour - like an Eau de nil but changes colour throughout the day and is very soothing. I have dark wooden floors and dark brown leather sofas like you and I think I'm going with Farrow & Ball Borrowed Light when I come to decorate to give everything a lift, a pale rug is also a great idea. The cabinets you mention I would choose white to go with your existing bookcase and also to keep things light against the walls. This is currently my inspirational living room pic, the walls are borrowed light.

Agree with Judith too, paint all one colour as back wall. I like the fireplae and wouldn't replace it. That mirror it too big and not very interesting, doesn't do anything for the wall or the fireplace. The gold I suspect clashes with the metal on the surround, bit too new and shiny. I think a great piece of artwork would really set off the fireplace and make it a gorgeous focal point. As the fireplace is very angular I suggest a more organic colourful piece to soften it up a bit. A real painting rather than a print if you can. Keep an eye out at markets, second hand stores ... or even eBay!

Morning You say that privacy isn't an issue so I would dress the main window and the small window on the left hand wall with roman blinds. I would mount the blinds outside of the recess t make more of a feature and not steal any of the light. Regarding the two narrow windows I would leave them undressed and get two matching vases, ornaments etc and place them on the window sill to make a feature. I think that blinds would be too fussy and would detract from the rest of the room. If you wanted privacy you could always add some frosting to the two narrow windows The furniture you've chosen is beautiful I'm sure it will look fab!
