Anyone used Easy Surface Prep? (ESP)

I'm looking to paint my build in wardrobes as they are very outdated...but dont have the funds to have new ones put in. The issue I have is that they are a melamine material.

Apparently, you can buy this ESP product. There is no need for sanding or priming... which sounds perfect!!! Now, im all for giving something a go... but just wondered whether anybody else has had experience using this stuff or anything like it!

Never heard of it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, I use Zinsser Zinsser at Screwfix - water based

Zinsser is brilliant but I would still prep the surface.

I think this is a really nice kitchen - you've done a nice job. The only thing that is throwing it off are the two different floors in dining and kitchen area. I'd like to see the same flooring continued through both areas. I think you'll be very pleased with the difference it makes. Since you do not like the wood or the tile, perhaps a porcelain 12x24 tile would work for you. It's very durable, so you wouldn't have to worry about the Newfies scratching it and very easy to maintain. You'd could opt for one of the wood grains on the market or one made to simulate stone. I think a greyish color would work well.

Hello Edele, Well one way to maximise space is to reconsider the appliance aspect. So for example you could have a free standing range oven.. which will have hob and oven in 1 piece. This could give you much more space to play with, so possibly you might want a double height fridge, which would be best placed to go at the other end.. The other thing you could easily do is take out those shelves above the worktop and instead have a row of shelving on the rear wall.. Then you could have a row of cabinets all along the top. This gives a slightly different feel to the kitchen, making it more streamlined but also potentially offering you more storage space.. Re positioning the cabinets and painting them can also achieve a new look whilst using what you have.. Replacing the handles with touch/open mechanism hinges on the inside also gives the cupboards a really stylish appearance and nickel or brass (depending on colour of cabinet door) cup handle for the drawers... . If you were to take away the armchair.. you may be able to move along the table a little, add two chair to the head of the table to seat 6 and then at the other end on the far wall (where I suggested some shelving) have a butchers block or table for additional food prep... It could have wheels so you could use it when dining for serving and so forth.. : ))

It looks very pretty. I would look at pics of painted floors versus whitewashed and see which you prefer then people can hopefully help with methods. I've used chalk paint but not on a floor. Annie Sloan sell floor lacquer so you don't need to use the wax which is very time consuming to apply, the lacquer can be rollered on. The only thing I would say is that it does not adhere to I think varnish made in the 80's and I find the White paint coverage is poor although not an issue if white washing. You can use ESP Bullseye or Zinser primer. Then undercoat and topcoat(s) melamine is a plastic of sorts and so the paint needs so merging to create a key to stick to.
Make sure the wardrobes are clean, use sugar soap and please be aware they could scratch after, if someone has rings on opening the handles. Good luck

I have used ESP. Fab stuff. It’s expensive but a little goes a very long way. A little tricky to use as it’s a watery, slightly milky liquid so follow the instructions. It’s an etching primer so it grabs onto any surface including shiny metal and provides a good tacky layer for the next coat. Prep is everything. As mentioned sugarsoap the surface thoroughly. If possible I would take the doors off their hinges, remove the handles, and work on them flat. Zinsser primer is also just as good. Also found that ordinary matt emulsion works well as an undercoat after primer. Still experimenting using chalk paint as a primer, has worked really well on unfinished pine but yet to test on shiny surfaces. Hope this helps a little.
Oh, just a note. Dust is your enemy! Especially if your final finish is oil based (gloss, varnish etc.). After the undercoat I would sand down lightly (400 grit or more) and again in any subsequent layers and use a tack cloth to remove dust (you can get these in Halfords) before applying a layer of paint. This should result in a nice smooth finish.
