Urban Loft Decor help

I'm struggling to decide on how to place accent furniture and what accent furniture would complement our living room space. We moved into our loft recently and due to the open floor plan we've had to create separate living spaces. Right now I want to focus on the living room area. Our apartment is very urban and industrial, but I'm trying to soften it up with a little Bohemian vibe here and there. I like the look of mid century but I did not want our place to be drowned in MCM in it's entirety. We are slowly, but surely putting the place together, and I need your help with a coffee table, lamp(s), end table(s), throw pillows etc. we love our Persian rug and we would really like a glass coffee table so the rug shines through. Behind the sofa you'll see a table, and that is our dining area. We have not purchased chairs yet. (we can move onto the dining area next ) The loft is pretty empty right now, and we are focusing on furniture only before we really get into any kind of decorating. Although, I think the loft has enough character on its own and doesn't need a ton of decor. Attached are pics of the Livingroom. Thanks for the help!!

Need help with a red carpet
Comments (28)Ok - currently saving money on carpet; already have pool table and lamp for this area. What about creating different seating areas in the room. You said there are built ins? Computer station? Family using this space. Here is MY suggestion: I would use MORE than one rug - each for specific areas of this room. You can have the sisal berbers made to fit - and I think ONE large one would actually end up being a little messy as this would be huge - and could get off bounds? (out of shape) You could have these bound and use them to create different areas within the larger space? Is that a gold or a taupe or beige color between the red pattern? Here is my suggestion : the opposite side of the color wheel tones down the other - since this is a red color - how about using a very soft BLUE/GREY on the ceiling? Or a very soft Grey/Blue? And a very soft taupe or mocha color on the walls - something which is within the SAME tonal family as the NON-red portion of your rug? This should go nicely with your brown sofa and the sisal or other type berbers? YES - get one larger one (RUG for the area in front of the TV . . . large enough to go from the baseboard area - to completely under your sofa? BTW - LAZYBOY makes beuatiful furniture - and you do NOT have to get the plumped and rolled ubiquitious leather chair. OR, I can personally, highly recommend FurnitureLa South, in Hickory N.C. - and they will deliver for FREE! Love that! They have a style for everyone and this is where they actually make the furniture. They sell ALL manufacturers at cost. Well not Lane or Ethan Allen. My one last thought - since this is such a very large space - I would also get a rather substantial and DARK drapery rod using finials - and extend the width of the drapes to help balance the room on the other side with the windows. Since you have built ins on the other side - this will help balance the space visually. IF you do not like the color of the fixture material on the pool table light - you can get any finish you desire in a rustoleium paint - I would consider spray painting this something in the neighborhood of a oil rubbed bronze; or something with more of a dark patina? This would also help balance out the room and bring focus into the space you are utilizing - the rest will fade away. SO - ceiling paint a must; paint the trim or add a more traditional trim - at least 5 inches in depth; TWO separate rugs - not one big one - at least one for now for the TV area; Extend your drapes and raise them almost to the ceiling to help balance the room; Darker drape rod - and double the fabric for your drapes to make them look fuller; Spray paint a darker finish on to the pool table fixture. Use a tone of paint on the wall which will go with the tone of the other color of your rug! Another thought: You consider finding an old wooden bench - or church pew ??? that would be fun; you could place facing into the space around the pool table area? Comments (4)Thanks! Yeah I tried to rotate the bed so the headboard would be opposite the radiator but it meant the wardrobe doors wouldn't open. I may need to change the bed frame to include storage space alright but it would need to add height not width which is tricky to find ready made. Comments (9)Is the chandelier thing seeming a bit small for the room or is it just me? Given that your walls are plain, the sofa is plain how about a patterned rug? Do you like Persian rugs? I find that dark green wainscotting too heavy and would paint it a lighter color. Given you have just moved in I assume you are planning to be there a while. If you like traditional style do you want a fairly safe color scheme re walls and curtains, keeping future resale in mind. Or are u happy to decorate according to your tastes? 6 years agoGreat place! I agree with you a glass coffee table would help showcase your vibrant rug! I also love this contemporary camel colored accent chair paired with your chesterfield sofa. The end table and floor lamp would also be a nice compliment ad tie in for the space. Good luck!

6 years agoI know this is probably not what you had in mind but I still like the idea of a swivel chair.
This PB one is ah mazing. We have it at my store and I can vouch for the leather quality and it is SUPER comfortable.
I also love the west elm version but the tufting on this one makes it even more comfortable and the stock leather (comes in a bunch of others) already looks broken in.
This is a chair you will have for a long time. Not a piece of Wayfair stuff that you dislike 2 months after you take it out of the box.

6 years agoLove your space and have been following to see how it all comes together. Thought I would share that we have the PB leather chair you are considering it is very good looking and comfortable. Not sure what the wait time is now, but when we ordered it a year ago it took over four months to get. PB seems to be having stock and delivery issues.

6 years agoI keep seeing these amazing MCM consoles and man if it were me I would go in this direction for the TV. I have found Chairish and 1st Dibs To have great selection and where out of one antique purchase from each, one went perfectly (1st dibs), and the other was an epic disaster, Chairish made good in the end and I got some really special pieces for great prices and never got sore feet :)
