IKEA vs Custom?

Hi there, ive been planning a new kitchen for some time now and finally ready to purchase. Now I love the Ikea bodbyn kitchen, but I also looked into a custom kitchen maker who happens to be a business acquaintance of mine and thus is giving me reduced prices on all parts of the kitchen. He quoted me around 12-13k for all custom cabinets - 45" upper cabinets with some glass inserts that go to the ceiling with moulding. Basically I love the design he gave, however, I dont love the finish of the doors. I can chose any style of door I like, but to accommodate my budget can only offer a "newer" version of foil doors (which he says wont peel from heat), and he only offers them in 2 colours, one is a white, and the other is a light grey (I dont love either to be honest). He also didnt include as many drawers as ikea, and is charging around $80 per additional drawer, so another 1000-1300 for drawers. This does not include backsplash and counters. Ikea on the other hand, the cabinets are costing me only $7000. I can put them up myself, or have someone do the entire installation for me for $2500. These include all drawers and all the features I want in a kitchen. So installed it would still cost less plus give me the colour I want. Also Ikea is giving me 20% back in gift cards, which I can put towards counters. Now, I guess the question is whether sacrificing IKEA painted cabinets for thermofoil is worth going with the custom cabinets where I wont have to lift a finger? I believe he uses the same type of material for his boxes as Ikea. What other options do I have?
