Which Garden Design?

These are quick sketches of two garden-design options that I have outlined for a client. Which one do you prefer? Option A is more intricate and the use of the long diagonal line will help this small garden feel bigger, but her children and dogs may try to cut through the border to use the shortest path from the back door to the top of the garden! Option B is cheaper because it will use slightly less materials, but is perhaps a bit conventional. Which would you choose?

The garden is approx 15m long and faces South West.

I'd love to know which version your client went with in the end. I personally love Option A and the diagonals in the plot.

RED Interior Design will there be tallish plants or shrubs that will give the table area some separation / privacy from the main house? If so, I'd go with option A, if not then the straight line for me please ;)

Hi lots of different options and ideas going on. I had a similar wall and understand how mean it can be to little ones. I bought and put up the expanding wood trellis. This instantly covered the area at a very reasonable price. I then planted quick growing climbing plants. I'm not a great gardener so I cant remember what i had but ask at the garden centre they will advise you. But at least you have a barrier in place to minimize accidents.

You can read them here. http://www.houseplanshelper.com/free-floor-plan-software.html Just FYI most software programs have an app where you can view your projects but I can't remember seeing one where you can actually work on your designs on your iPad Hope this helps Meg.

Making best use of my small garden

I would follow the curving line of the lovely brick sett edging to the beds and have the same brick edging whatever flag stone you choose . This way you can continue the lovely curve and have your patio wider/ deeper on whichever side you choose to have the table and bbq. Grass the rest...I 'very just seen the date on this question. You'very probably done it by now, lol

Hi - I have just moved into a new build with this blank canvas sizeable back garden. Its West facing, and that extra area to the right is dead south. So much potential, but I dont know where to start. Right now its is uneven and grassed over all the builders rubbish. I dont have thousands right now to get a garden design and renovation so it will be along term project but Im almost afraid to make a move, plant something etc incase it goes against the long term vision of th site. So I suppose what Im looking for is to have an idea in my head or a sketch of what it will look like in 3-5 years, but I have no expertise in gardens. Can somebody provide affordable design/architectural advice and a roadmap of jobs to be done. Some I can do myself hopefully. I Would like this to be a heavily used space to live in round the year, maximising sunshine, with privacy all round (climbers) lots of colour english country garden style and functioning well for parties, barbecues etc

Option B is timeless classic and will work better if there is children and pets around.

Thank you all for your comments. The client went with Option B; there was need of slightly less hard-landscaping costs which swung it. Here's a quick pic showing the first year's planting in place :)
