Making best use of my small garden

Hi, we have recently bought a house and the garden needs a bit of work. Would like to get some advice on making the best use of it and not using a design that will make it look smaller. The garden size is 40ft x 24ft. We plan on removing the decking and replacing it with patio and installing artificial grass for all year round access. I am really not sure what shape to make the patio, I think one side will need to be wider than the other to take table chairs and a bbq.

I would follow the curving line of the lovely brick sett edging to the beds and have the same brick edging whatever flag stone you choose . This way you can continue the lovely curve and have your patio wider/ deeper on whichever side you choose to have the table and bbq. Grass the rest...I 'very just seen the date on this question. You'very probably done it by now, lol

Add a great large low profile cutting board, and by large I mean really large. Maybe even 2nd smaller one in a contrasting wood color and grain ie large one end grain and smaller skinny long one cross grain one. Even add a chrome or silver 3 layer tray thingy for fruits to be at hand but in a nice display vs a simple bowl. Get some some enamel bowls with color and use them through the counter and island. Either all same color or in the same family of colours, I'd cut out the panels in the doors by the cooktop and put in either bubbled glass or mesh and interior light them. Maybe one of the door one by the wall ovens, paint it out in caulk board paint or use some HDF thin board as an inset and have it as interesting feature to breakup that wall of cabinetry.

It would help if you could post some photos as this gives us a better understanding of what you are dealing with. It would probably help your thinking if you draw out the space and really think about what your favourites plants are. A mix of some shrubs, climbers and small long flowing plants like geranium rozanne will give you year round interest. Remember right plant right place is a rule for a very good reason! Maybe talk to the neighbours about cutting back any branches on your side of the boundary?
