Closet into desk space? weird?

weird or good idea? would also want to know what to paint the inside of the closet. ill be keeping the existing paint on the walls. forgot what it's called but it's the signature series from valspar. it is a warm gray color. the carpet will be ripped out ill be installing a light hickory engineered floor. also would like suggestions on layout. i need a spot for my work desk (multiple monitors), gaming/video pc with one widescreen, and my DJ setup you see there. open to suggestions and layout. thank you!

Looks like you could use a full wall of storage in the closet with a desk oriented like a partners desk. Something like this:

Color within closet at the back wall could be a fun favorite color but then keep the rest of the room neutral.

Lots of ideas....couldn't resist adding my two cents. i copied your photos and did a little cut and paste- it's messy, but hopefully gets the main idea across. i'd put your sofa in front of the large book case, chair by the fireplace, tv on the stand on the wall opposite the fireplace - so you can either look at the fire or the tv. Someone suggested using frames of one color for your photos - an inexpensive way to do that would be to spray paint them all a dark color-black goes with everything. Since your shelves are a medium tone wood, display things that are dark or light so that they contrast against the wood. Limiting your display items pallette to a few values usually helps to unify things. (I think that's why so many people want to paint the shelves or put inserts in the back to help your nice things read more clearly...some get lost). If you want to "splurge" -you may consider having a carpenter make a few solid tall cabinet doors to provide a visual break in the shelving. I'm showing 3 doors - 1 on the right side of the fireplace and 2 on the left to leave two open vertical shelves for display on each side - with things arranged to frame the fireplace as the focal point. To add some height to your big vases, consider stacking some books beneath them. Enjoy experimenting untill you get something you're happy with - good luck!

If you are wanting to almost start over, I would paint in a soft blue or soft blue/green or soft green. These colors are restful, soothing and inviting. Wood floors will be great. I would get white bedding and maybe some colorful shams. White will work with anything else. Move the bed in the center of the wall. I would repaint the nightstand white and move it closer to the closet to be able to center the bed. Get another nightstand same height. Or get two new white taller night stands. You could get a small desk to go with the chair. Paint the chair white. Maybe window panels in a semi-sheer woven frint fabric. Place a dressing mirror on the back of the door. Take the colors from the drape for throw pillows on the bed. It will feel bright and fresh, yet restful. Something like this feeling Wall color and bedding

I love the reading nook, too. We had one in our old house, we called it our "Harry Potter cupboard" and the kids' toys had a home there. Love the open shelf idea, could also do floating shelves, drawer seating with a cushion (drawers giving storage) for the reading nook...oh the possibilities are such fun!

Hi, you have a lovely home! I read through your thread, and I like Dar Eckarts suggestion above the best. I think because of the symmetry of it as an H shaped house is symmetrical, and it would also keep the space looking decorated but still open and uncluttered which is what an entrance should be. Sorry, but I don't care for the bookcase idea in an entrance. I also noticed the masks you have, and think it would be great to decorate the space using them as inspiration. Here is a photo to show you the kind of rug I think would work here.
