URGENT NEED HELP for colours of other walls (accent wall navy)

I desperately need help, I am redecorating my flat and made the right choice with every room (light blues and lavenders) except my bedroom which was a light violet. The colour is fine in the day but in the evening it goes really horrible yellow/green migraine and I'm going to repaint. The painter told me not to paint all the rooms dark blue (though still deciding between navy blue or a dark purpley/blue. I don't have access to lovely Benjamin Moore as I'm in the UK so can only use Dulux.

I need YOUR ADVICE on my other walls. I want to paint the window wall and the "arch" wall navy blue as I want to put a grey/cream armchair there. But the painter is saying it's better to put the darker colour behind my bed and a lighter colour on the other walls. The window is under that white blind - there will be curtains put up there eventually,

I have ugly built in wardrobes which I can't change (spent too much money on the other rooms as it is) I really need advice on what other colour to paint the other walls or which wall should be the accent wall or should I just go dark for everything? I seriously need all of your advice and help on this one! Thanks!!

I really like the second from the the left.... it looks as if it has enough lilac in it to make it soft and exciting, but enough blue in it so that the color will not change in the lower lights.

Once again, carolins has taken the words right out of my mouth. I sometimes feel like a crusader for entertainment centers and lowering art! You have a dynamic room with so much potential. Your wall could look amazing with the armoire carolins has pictured above. Of course, lower your sconces so that they're a about 4" below the top of the armoire and about 7" from the sides. Your fireplace should be your focal point with your wall being strong but not competing. Rooms get personality from smaller accents but you have too many little things that take away from the great colored pillows and the picture. Be careful not to hang things in straight lines--top of pictures should never line up with tops of doors or curtain rods. I wish we could see your fireplace in another photo. Chairs should form conversation groups with the couch like Carolyn has outlined. I like your chandelier but you might think about lowering it or moving it above a dining table--it looks rather lost way up there.

Hi, thanks for your comment. I totally agree - I actually have a large art print on order (vertical/ portrait orientation) and that will be replacing the mirror when it arrives. From previous comments I received everyone seems have different opinions on sofa choices but I think I'm pretty happy with the L shape one I've gone with - it fits the space a lot better (I think!) than the 3 & 2 seaters I previously had. I contemplated going with a different lighter sofa colour but practicality won in the end!

Wow, I didn't expect so many responses, thank you so much for your time and ideas. I do know that the art is wrong but had to put something up from our last house while we settle in. I do find the fireplace a bit un-friendly and so I would consider changing the colour of it even just the border of it like one of the photos shows. I'm not keen on the small computer cabinet or the ladder shelving I have to admit. I was thinking more of putting 3 full width cherry wood shelves, bottom one being wider and desk height, changing the light fittings to down lights and maybe having a wallpaper or painted backdrop behind the shelves?? I realise I would have to get rid of or change the wallpaper on the other wall and change the curtains too. I take your point, many of you said it, about the curtains needing to fall straight, but I will need a wider pole to do that. Again many thanks, AnnaMarie ps we are in Ireland now but lived in australia for many years and that picture over the mantle is of an old aussie shed with moon light on it.

Thanks Patricia - I like the lemon. Would navy work do you think? I really don't want the room becoming too - pastel or feminine. As for furniture -literally the bed is all in the room and the bedside tables. A walk in robe is adjacent so any other furniture can be added for fun as opposed to function. I may add a window seat

Your painter is right. You should only put the navy on the bed wall. If you insist on using the navy on any other wall, I would make it the "Arch" wall, but only in the inset. The rest of the room should be painted with the color second from the left. There is just enough of the color in this paler blue to complement the navy without making a stark contrast and thereby making a more soothing palette. In a space this small a strong contrast would not be the best choice.
