Where do i go from here? Needs a pop of colour but what colour?
Comments (13)I think your colors are restful so I would work with those and not pop a color. Maybe some interesting artwork that had some color in it, but I think you should go for a more elegant calm look. By the way, I like the chandelier you have with the fireplace. I think I would paint the lower part of your wall the same blue as is in the top part. Then I would add some black accents in glass and lamps. Curtains that have a sheen or gold thread would be nice....See MoreWhat size mirror over fireplace?
Comments (7)Rule of thumb is usually 2/3rd's the width of the mantle is a size that will look comfortable. Over mantle mirrors do add a 'finished' feel and look very sophisticated but it depends what style you're really going for. I quite like the window style mirrors you can get now for a twist on the traditional over mantle mirrors. Can tie classic to industrial or mid century quite happily....See MoreHelp! how should I arrange my living room furniture?
Comments (0)I'd love some advice on how to arrange my living room furniture, starting with a completely blank canvas. The room will be used as a child-free retreat, mainly in the evenings for reading, watching movies and some entertaining. The window faces south east so it is bright during the day and looks over the front garden. We will probably get built ins around the fireplace to store books. I am thinking about getting a corner sofa oriented towards the tv on the right side of the fireplace but I am worried then that the wall opposite the window will just be blank. I'd like to put a chair there too but when you are entering the room I think it will appear to stick out a lot. What could I put on that wall? Could I orient the room the opposite way by putting the tv on the left of the fireplace or would that feel strange entering the room between couches? Would it be better if the door opened the opposite way? What size should the sofa be, given the room is 4.1x4.2m? I have attached a diagram of the room layout and what I am thinking currently. Any suggestions welcome! Thank you!...See MoreHow should I modernize this kitchen without spending a lot?
Comments (0)In a year or two, we would like to renovate the kitchen/dining/living areas so I do not want to put a lot of money into the space right now... However, until that reno time comes, I would like to make a few small changes that will help modernize the space and brighten it up a bit I'm torn on what to do in this kitchen... I was thinking about staining the cabinets darker, painting the back splash tiles white & painting the walls... however... I'm a complete newbie and I'm not confident in my decisions at all. Few things to note, that table will not be there - I'm planning on getting a high, thin bar table (wood and steel) that will go above the radiator w/ 2 bar stools. I really like dark rustic & industrial design. I also don't plan on changing the flooring until reno day so I'll have to work around that as well. Any advice would be much appreciated :) Thank you!...See Morelottiefenwick
