Beautiful Design!

Hi,
I am working with a very steep slope on a home I am just completing in the mountains of WNC. Do you recall how steep of a slope was involved in the this photo? Did you use the stones to create planting pockets of soil? Thanks for any guidance!

Hi Kevin,

Welcome to WNC it's a wonderful place to live.

I'm not sure of what the exact gradient was. The boulders were used to retain the soil and we planted in between to further stabilize the bank. There's also a mortared retaining wall further down that is not visible in this photo.

ms1zebra, Thanks for your comment and interest! River-rock finished aluminum is a great surface. Its unfinished textured top allows for increased durability for work surfaces. It is resilient with heat, stains, oxidation, but will show signs of use if heavy objects are dropped on or slid across it or cutting is done on it with steel knives. As mainly a lighting manufacturer, we do not heavily promote our tile choices, so we haven't made much of an impact on the tile market. Perhaps when folks think of aluminum as a material, they think about unfinished flat aluminum sheet, which is not a good or even available choice for kitchen surfaces. However, our tumbled finish and thick castings give durability and a great balance between a classic weathered and modern look. Hello Houzz Ireland, We are currently renovating a 1960's build - so as you know, there is a lot of decisions to be made!! So it would be nice to get some gems of advice from the experts to help us through this daunting task. Areas where we would really like some inspiration for - small bathroom downstairs. I would really like to do something fun with this room and although small, I think it could work really well with some funky wallpaper or possibly tiles?! I'm just not sure what to do with it. Also - pulling a whole house together?! Where do we start? We have the bigger pieces of furniture but how do I know what nest of tables goes best with a suite? Or what accessories will bring a room together? I'm due a second baby in 2 weeks time so any help at this stage would be so amazing - to guide me on the right interior design path for our new house. Lovely bright room, I would use very discrete neutral blinds so as not to take away from lovely window views. I like your couches & their position. I would perhaps get a larger rug which could be placed slightly underneath the front of both couches which can look good and I would update my cushions and perhaps vary the colour & size slightly to tie in with the rug. I've included some images below which may give you ideas and there are plenty more beautiful rugs etc out there. A light fitting for your ceiling & a low vase of flowers on your coffee table would look great too. Have fun!

A few things I would change from experience...instead of a single and double door I would spend the extra money and put in a bifold corner section...would open up the space so much more. as for the kitchen...completely flip your design...put your breakfast bar closer to the window...make it large and multipurpose with the hob in it and then put your main band of cabinets either left, right or behind? We have recently restructured our existing cabinets to this layout and put in new countertops and it works far better than before!
