Hi Maureen. I'd suggest getting an idea of what you like to do in the kitchen.
i.e. Whether you love baking, cooking for big family social events or socialising over a glass or three etc etc. Then start thinking of the useful features you'd like to bear in mind - ie.. from above - would like a double oven with steam option, 5 hobs and plenty of prep space or a breakfast bar / island.
That starts the process and then you can start looking at layouts, finishes, worktop and backsplash materials etc.
As CK mentions - that's what a professional designer will run you through. Just see who's local to you and drop in / give them a call.
