We are getting a new kitchen. Currently is L-shaped but hoping to add breakfast bar. Also where fridge is prosposed currently has a radiator. Interested in getting people's opinions on the plan. We are concerned that the breakfast bar is too long and closing off the kitchen. Gap is 1200 from fridge and 1000 from corner of utility room. Could make it shorter by 200/300mm. It is a good size kitchen/diner but kitchen space is quite restricted. Thanks
Hi Helen, The fridge position is ideal so I suggest you move the radiator to the other side of the door and turn the door so its opens back against the fridge. This will increase the feeling of space in the whole dining area. You won't regret the length of your breakfast bar so I wouldn't worry about the gap sizes, 1200 is an ideal but 1000 is more than sufficient. Could you turn the door into the utility so that it opens inwards and not into the kitchen area? It would eliminate having to manoeuvre round the door when open and reduce congestion in the kitchen especially with traffic flow past the end of the breakfast bar. Alternatively you could consider a pocket door which slides into the wall if there is enough space. Good luck!
Kitchen seems too small. Why is it in the smallest part of room?. Surely it is better placed in dining area. Utility shouldnt be a problem where it is. A few steps more to access it will do wonders for fitness. All units would fit together then and put sideboard behind door where fridge is shown. Why do you need a sideboard?. With the kitchen/dining in same room surely theres no need and it would look silly anyway. Perhaps something like a tv unit which could be designed bykitchen supplier. All the best.
