Really narrow entrance hall!!

I have been refurbish a small bungalow. Due to budget restraints I have a very narrow entrance hall. It is 3.5ft wide with no option to knock walls for light etc. It is plastered now and I will need to think about a suitable finish i.e. Floor type, wall colour, decor etc.
What tricks would open up the space?

Lighting, a mirror and a reflective floor would help with the lighting. Another clever trick would be to open some the space between wall studs for shallow display niches.

Hi, you have a lovely home! I read through your thread, and I like Dar Eckarts suggestion above the best. I think because of the symmetry of it as an H shaped house is symmetrical, and it would also keep the space looking decorated but still open and uncluttered which is what an entrance should be. Sorry, but I don't care for the bookcase idea in an entrance. I also noticed the masks you have, and think it would be great to decorate the space using them as inspiration. Here is a photo to show you the kind of rug I think would work here.

A niche would be a good way to add some drama without infringing on your circulation space. It doesn't have to be deep to be effective. You can do one simple vertical rectangle, and line the back with a mirror, or add some colour with paint, wallcovering or wood. It would be great if you could also add a recessed light fixture at the top. The attached images are perhaps too busy for your situation, but it gives you a good idea of what can be done. Good luck!

Paint the doors black matt and the fames cream add silver crome door furniture. Huge silver mirror above the covered radiator then add a runner of any colour you like and match it with the lamps and lighting. hey presto done.

Cheers for that,. Ya, think you could be right about the border and to be honest it wouldn’t be the same without it so that’s causing me to lean towards timber. I’m putting paneling half way up left hand side of the hallway. Here’s photo of space from opposite angle. Ignore all the bits in the way!! There’s a larder going too left hand corner and coat cupboard on left inside the door.
