i agree with most suggestions above. but dont remove your current rug because u can actually layer a faux fur rug over it. plus your rug has amazing rustic colours and u can use them as accents. maybe over time you may invest in new pillowcases/quilt covers complementing the colours of the rug..peach/mint/cream/ to name a few. may also add some mettalic cushions combo. you can always take them off if you want that summery feel in which switch to sweet pastels. a lot of pillows are important! lol! i'd get rid of the plant. the dressing table n side tables could be black (lacquer may be interesting)with gold knobs (think art deco). dressing table should be move to the side so you get more light and space near the window. maybe mirror can be placed against the window so ull also get natural light when you're admiring your reflection. ur room has an eclectic feel to it.. its great just needs some rearrangments thats all.

I've had a look at free offerings for floor planning software. It depends on the level you want to go to. Sweethome3D http://www.sweethome3d.com/ is truly free because it's open source (no fees if you want to draw more than one plan etc). I've found I can get reasonably detailed with it from layout perspective but I doubt it would be good enough for a drawings for a building permit (although I'm not certain of this). As a graphic designer you'll have an affinity for graphics software. If you want to be able to draw more detailed drawings Id take the time to learn Sketchup. I know some architects use this as their software of choice. I'm definitely with you @Jason Carter - the only way to really control your budget is to plan ahead and choose and price everything that you can think of before you break ground. Otherwise you're in a situation where you have to make quick compromises during the build which leads to mistakes etc. In my work we use requirements tracking tools. I think it would be really helpful to communicate to the contractors exactly what is going to go on in the room - why the extra outlets are there and in the position they're in. That way they have a deeper understanding of why the specs are the way they are and they don't make decisions that detract from the design - they might even come up with suggestions that support the ideas behind the designs.

Hi, I would incline to tiling the whole space in one material. Now, with that you have lots of options in terms of material choices. If you have underfloor heating I would recommend to go for porcelain tiles - they come in wide range of colours, patterns, stone and wood imitations. Marble and wood imitating tiles are very popular and timeless such as calacatta white marble, creme marfil marble, granite, slate. Wood porcelain tiles range from blonde tones, light, dark browns to almost black, zebrano. Porcelain tiles technology has evolved so much over the last decade that an untrained eye can not distinguish the porcelain from the real thing. And if you have children it's so much more practical as well. Easy to clean and maintain. However, if you don't have the option of underfloor heating I would recommend wooden flooring. Again throughout. I wouldn't break the flow with different flooring types. If you have your living room in that open plan as well, I wouldn't worry too much about changing the flooring type just because of it. You can always use large rugs to define the area and function of that space, and make it more cosy. I just completed a project with porcelain tiles throughout. You can have a look at my profile. Hello Roundwood Design, Very nice!!..... there are just a few things I'd do differently.. Have a free standing range oven.. If we could... Wolf... Smeg double 9 burner duel fuel in chrome... Simply because I like gas for the hob and electric oven.. I really like very robust, industrial appliances.. Dualit toaster and Architect kettle, Kitchenaid in chrome.. No need to put these in corners! I'd choose a different sink... I do like ceramic butler style, concrete or a marble or other stone.. Slightly different tap.. Handles... I personally don't really like them...unless they are really really plain lengths of brass or those lovely brass cup handles.. Then I would paint the bottom cabinets a nice charcoal or a navy.. Or the walls a dark colour..If there was more height to contrast the light cupboards at head height.. I'd have a big larder cupboard or two if the space allowed... instead of corner units.. For food and for the table linen and crockery etc.. You could have boxed in the extractor and painted it the same colour as the cupboards- as there is a lack of chrome here.. that could have worked with the overall aesthetic of the room... The little 3 spot light.. Don't think that is sophisticated enough.. Have a look at Old School Electric.. Do love the shape of the doors and design and also the subway tiles choice and the use of matt paint! The floor is very nice too and the kitchen is well made.. : ))
