What materials did you choose to use for the siding?

It looks great without your typical New England materials. What did you do for a finish to keep the natural wood look?

This is Atlantic White Cedar, in a select (vertical grain) grade. We created a custom shiplap detail with an exposed reveal, and the finish was a semi transparent Cabot sealant, in 'natural'. The cedar came from Liberty Cedar in RI:

I have to say, though, that cedar does of course tend to silver out over time. To keep this looking 'new' the owner will have to apply a bleaching product and then re-apply the 'natural' tone cabot stain.

I agree with everything said so far. Would suggest you get built in book shelvers on both sides of fireplace, lift tv into a slot it fits perfectly into (make sure you have power on both sides). Then it will disappear more rather than fight with fireplace as focal point. I am always disappointed with mirrors over fireplaces, they become dark, are to high to reflect much. Plus then you have three rectangles fighting for center stage. I'd say very colorful artwork instead. Wonder if you can reorient tv where the big chairs are so both tv and fireplace are addressed? Color, maybe you should decide on furniture first?

I love the cabin in the woods, its a intimate setting where you are drawn to the outside whilst keeping snug indoors. The use of fabrics sets it apart from the usual cold designs of other modern rooms. The attention detail in the selection of furniture pieces keeps it modern yet functional.

A15) @Dara Cooke: If you can't afford a quartz or granite worktop from day one then I would recommend using a laminate worktop as a temporary solution. If you don't put tiles up as a backsplash then replacing the worktops can be relatively easy in a couple of years.

I painted my kitchen three years ago, and I love it. It's hard work and can take some weeks to do. You need to take doors off, remove the hinges and handles. Remember you need to prime and paint two coats on each side, so for a door that equates to six coats of paint and letting each coat dry. I used Mylands of London paint, I'm just hooked on this paint as the eggshell is dead flat with only 8 percent sheen, you wont get another paint any flatter. And if the paints good enough for Downtown Abbey, then it's good enough for us. I would hold back on painting wall tiles, as they are white and look fine , paint the cupboards first and see what it looks like. I choose Myalnds paint and had the colour mixed in a farrow and ball blue green. See photos. Good luck Yvonne

While we need to respect the privacy of the client with regard to the specific numbers, a house of this type could typically cost anywhere from 300 to 500 dollars per sq foot. Its a broad range because so much is determined on the level of finishes, and where one does and does not decide to go with the more expensive choices versus the simpler, more sensible ones. Every project achieves its own individual balance in this respect, while keeping the whole feel consistent. Hope that helps.
