Kitchen in need of some loving

I have my new home in Carmel California. And I need to update my kitchen, it is incredibly outdated. I would like to keep the color of my cabinets and keep the appliances. But I need to change the countertop, remove the mirror backsplash, and possibly get a new farm sink.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advanced!

It is not outdated.
it is beautiful.
definitely don't change anything of it.
love the colours.

one thing to change if possible is the floor.
that is the only thing that i would personally change.

i agree with most suggestions above. but dont remove your current rug because u can actually layer a faux fur rug over it. plus your rug has amazing rustic colours and u can use them as accents. maybe over time you may invest in new pillowcases/quilt covers complementing the colours of the rug..peach/mint/cream/ to name a few. may also add some mettalic cushions combo. you can always take them off if you want that summery feel in which switch to sweet pastels. a lot of pillows are important! lol! i'd get rid of the plant. the dressing table n side tables could be black (lacquer may be interesting)with gold knobs (think art deco). dressing table should be move to the side so you get more light and space near the window. maybe mirror can be placed against the window so ull also get natural light when you're admiring your reflection. ur room has an eclectic feel to it.. its great just needs some rearrangments thats all.

I love the tall units but you need to go straight to the ceiling to prevent dust and dirt settling on the top. I would put a row of small up and over cupboards along the very top as an option. Very handy for unsightly bulky items. I don't like the end open shelves by sink very dated but what you could do is a long double shelf all the way along the island with a wine racking either side for balance vertically. I think shelving each side of the sink would be better. You have a lot of cupboards but no deep drawers which are highly valued these days. Good selling point. I Like your colour suggestions... The little Greene paint company have a lovely grey so does farrow and ball. Where are you sourcing your Quartz and what flooring? Do your ovens have easy open shelf doors ..handy as they retract so don't get in the way as you take food out..Neff offer best ones. If you want a better balance of tall you could always do fridge freezer one side and pull out pantry on the other with racking. Then on sink side don't go all the way along the wall just have it as centred space so you can pull out larder doors. On your island you will need your bin as this'll be prep area? What is the room opposite tall cupboards? Need the island to look good from that side as that is what you will see. Hope of help. I'm embarking on the same thing and have spent hours and hours researching!

I painted my kitchen three years ago, and I love it. It's hard work and can take some weeks to do. You need to take doors off, remove the hinges and handles. Remember you need to prime and paint two coats on each side, so for a door that equates to six coats of paint and letting each coat dry. I used Mylands of London paint, I'm just hooked on this paint as the eggshell is dead flat with only 8 percent sheen, you wont get another paint any flatter. And if the paints good enough for Downtown Abbey, then it's good enough for us. I would hold back on painting wall tiles, as they are white and look fine , paint the cupboards first and see what it looks like. I choose Myalnds paint and had the colour mixed in a farrow and ball blue green. See photos. Good luck Yvonne

I would change anything but the greenery over the window. Maybe a roman shade there if you need privacy. I think once your stuff is in it will be fine. Maybe nice paint on the walls.

You're probably just tired of your kitchen, but it still feels modern and with just a few changes...you may love it again. A farmhouse sink would be lovely and also suggest changing the backsplash to Carerra marble (2nd picture), add blue roman blinds and a runner, and a hanging farmhouse type fixture (1st pic) over the sink and some blue pottery on the window ledge.

I agree with the other comments. It's beautiful as it is. If this were my kitchen, I would change the backsplash to match the counters--perhaps black subway tile--put in a wood floor, and remove the greenery over the window. Finished!

It is NOT outdated. paint in a greige that pick up the colors of the floor and does not make the wood look yellowish and remove that thing over the window. Lovely kitchen congratulations

What material is the counter? I agree with the others that it looks good, but I can understand if the material is less than desirable and you want something more durable.

I can also see that a mirrored backsplash might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I think you'd want to keep it light, maybe something like tumbled stone?

Jazzing up the walls would be nice and effective. I have seen a farmhouse sink installed and what had to happen was to loose most of the area directly under the existing sink to a cut out and making two new shorter doors. You may be able to have a granite company cut out the granite without removing the old, removal and re-install, I hear, is expensive. I am guessing the cabinets need to be toned up with some new clear and maybe get a furniture touch up guy to tweak any minor issues with wear. You could also glaze the grooves before re-coating.

Change the color on the walls. Ditch the greenery above sink and maybe replace the flooring. It looks very nice as is.
