Quartz or wood work top

I'm redesigning my kitchen/dining room & putting in a cream shaker kitchen, chrome handles, integrated appliances & large glossy cream floor tiles. I'm torn between a sandstone shade quartz top or a dark wood. My worry is with the quartz it will be too beige & the wood it will be too country kitchen look. I want to keep it looking quiet modern. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Also any suggestions on what kind of wall tiles would be great

Is it too late to change your order to a white shaker kitchen instead ? Add a simple white/ grey marble top then paint your walls with colour - and you can easily change the wall colour if you feel like a change next year !

no a gas hob won't damage wood worktops - obviously though - don't put hot pans directly onto a wood surface - or you may get damage ... but you knew that anyway I bet !! :-)

...... sometimes even the ugliest just needs to be cleaned. A contractor turned us onto a product called Rejuvenate http://www.rejuvenateproducts.com/ This product can work miracles on anything wood. Can be purchased at Walmart to Home Depot. Read directions carefully and try on a spot first (closet floor) to see if this solves your problem. I used it on "hopeless" floors in a 70 year old house - hubby thought I had new floor installed while he was gone! Same applies to cabinets. Just sayin....

Lovely, much better than the 3D plan. V glad you kept your patterned floor tiles, I really like them. It's all come together very attractively. The only thing I'd change and this is just because I'm a colour freak is the pendants - I'd probably have made those red and orange or something. But congrats really, it looks great.

We are about to put in a new kitchen with an island. We really like the idea of a raised bar/overhang with a wooden effect but don't want the care involved in real wood. The guy putting in my kitchen is advising that the laminate might cheapen the kitchen. Can anyone help? I've seen it in a few showrooms and do think it can work. Thanks.
