Paint question

Id like to repaint my dining room so my curtains will stand out more against the walls. (They are currently the exact color as the top portion of the wall). love the color perfect greige by sherwin williams. My question is should I paint the trim in the middle of the wall the same color as the wall or should I leave it white like the baseboards and crown molding?

I had the same situation last year. I decided to paint the chair rail trim the same as my wall color.....made the room seem taller as I have 8' ceilings! Try painting the trim on the wall by the window. See how you like it and if you would rather keep it white, it's not that hard to go over it with the white. WELL, it may be if you do not have the same shade of white.

All trim should be the same color. You are better of removing it altogether if you want the wall all the same color. Since the chairs don't come anywhere close to the wall, a chair rail is totally unnecessary in this room.

The color of cabinets looks yellow in picture...if it is ivory then any color you like would work...color is very personal and should relate to you and the rest of your home...try using houzz photos of kitchens to get ideas of which colors appeal to you

Hi Louise, Lovely new kitchen, such a lovely bright space too. I would suggest going a couple of shades darker than the kitchen furniture colour so you get a contrast to the furniture and flooring. This will help keep it on a neutral palette so your other furniture and accessories are not competing with too many colours. Also as your room as so much natural light you can go for a slightly stronger wall colour and it will look superb. the photo below shows a very cool grey wall you could go for a warmer grey but it give you an idea of what you could do. Painting the walls can always be changed relatively easily, so if you want a change after a few years you can and it's a lot less costly than a new kitchen! ;-) Thanks. Questions like that drive me bonkers. It's not just the laziness. I'm sure I see a different blue and beige (or is it tan, or ecru, or taupe?) than he does because I use a different monitor and have the screen set to a different color temperature than he does. Every paint company warns you about the lack of accuracy of the colors on their websites. That's the nature of computer monitors. And that's a studio set, with colored lights shining on it. Who knows what that color is? Or even which color he's asking about, sheesh.

Paint for stain?

The first picture is our current doors and baseboard colour. The second picture is the new casings that are painted white. My question is should the door casing be painted white to be consistent with the window casing or should it be stained to match the door? Getting a stain exactly like that is near impossible. Originally they were all clear pine with a clear coat put on and with time (20 years) they have turned orange. If I should stain then does anyone know of a stain for pine that would come even close? Thank you for your help!

I like your color choices. What if you put the dark green on top and and the light on the bottom. Leave the chair rail white. If you want you could remove the white chair rail and replace it with painted wainscoting. Then your curtains will really pop and so will your floor. Good luck with your lovely room.

Looks like my dining room. Either keep it trim color or take it off, which is what I will be doing to update mine.

the chair rail should be kept the same as other woodwork trim.
