Any suggestions for our ground floor layout?
Comments (14)Jen, are you sure everything is in proportion? I'm asking, because that store seems to be just a bit wider than a door (so about 1 m) which is fine, but doesn't give much space to manoeuvre inside it. Also, a bit too many doors in a small space, but I'm afraid I can't offer you a remedy for that. You have two wide, massive windows and a door in between, I think that will give plenty of light. Personally, I'd just add skylights or a glass roof. Or a long strip of glass all along What you don't seem to have is ventilation windows. Trust me, you're going to want one in the utility, or at least a good fan. Transom style windows could work too if you can open them. I really wish you'd see an architect... there are lots of different, small things that a professional can spot from miles away that you wouldn't even consider. As I said, I regret we didn't; our house is great, but it could've been even better!...See MoreExterior remodelling of a 1970's house, Creative Advice Needed!!!
Comments (1)http://www.homebuilding.co.uk/2012/03/30/cladding-new-facades-for-ugly-homes/ Hi. You may get more responses if you upload some pics. What elements of georgian architecture do you like? If you like sash windows why not look at the attached or maybe consider a New England style houses as sashes were common? Is the ground floor of the house wide enough to take a door and 2 windows?...See MoreWhat lights would suit my bathroom
Comments (3)hello there. How about two wall sconces, one on either side of the mirror, and a roof light in the centre. I can't help with particular ones/ where to source them, but I think in this space, something rounded or square will work. You can also consider a light at the shower...See MorePimple Window
Comments (5)What you your options are depends upon what you want to have when you're done: whether you want to keep a nook of some kind for your table and chairs or just use a formal dining room you also have; whether your budget and inclination is to add a room or enlarge a room; what room has the other two windows and/or door or patio doors -- right wing of the house; whether you wish to create an open floor plan and connect what is now the breakfast nook with the room with the window beside the pimple and the door or patio doors; whether you want to lose the window that looks out at the pimple. You'll want to take into consideration what effect what you do will have on your ability to position your table and chairs in the breakfast nook centered beneath that really niece light fixture above it. You might consider extending the roof line of the right wing of the house where the window and door(s) overlook the pimple so you could bump out that wall to a point beyond the left / far wall of the pimple and connect the two rooms. You could use a shed roof, possibly even using glass roofing and, in lieu of windows, add patio doors to that wall....See MoreRebecca W
