Removing highly flammable, invasive plants is key. When removing Pride of Madera, White sage, Salvia alpiana makes for a great alternative. The California native sage scents the air with an earthy, fresh fragrance, and its edible leaves are a perfect addition to Thanksgiving meals.
The lady bug resting on its leaves protects human health by rendering the use of pesticides unnecessary. These delightful creatures are natural pest predators!

A great example of how a compact backyard can be turned into a beautiful outdoor haven. With a creative approach, this small space now boasts all the main features on the client's wish list: pergola, gas fire pit, water feature and covered patio area.
The square, horizontal/vertical layout gives a modern feel, which is merges with its wooded surroundings thanks to a combination of wood, brick, stone and slate. The height of the pergola frames the landscape and creates a cosy atmosphere under the surrounding tall trees.

Standing at the house you can see that the berm starts out around 10' high and ends around 3' in height. There is a strip of Deschampsia grasses planted in a row as a trial to see how well they would take. Future plants to mass grasses in this plant bed in order to add a different texture/colour.

Built in 1938, the home initially had two bedrooms on a large plot of land. But successive additions—including a loving renovation by a previous resident, local architect Gus Duffy—have transformed the dwelling into a spacious, six-bedroom estate with a generous guest house and detached playroom.
The flat, grassy backyard is a play space for the kids, along with the family’s English Bulldog and Pug. But the front yard, sheltered by hedges & mature Magnolia Tree is the client’s “sanctuary,” with a rocking chair near a burbling water fountain.
