Bold, dramatic and singular home with a relaxed yet sophisticated interior. Minimal but not austere. Subtle but impactful. Mix of California and Colorado influences in a Minnesota foundation.

Conversion of a small ranch house to a larger simplified-Craftsman style house. We retained most of the original house, rearranging a few walls to improve an awkward layout in the original house, and added a partial second story and converted a covered patio space to a dining and family room. The clients had read Sarah Susanka’s Not So Big books and wanted to use these principles in making a beautiful and ecological house that uses space efficiently.

This is a San Francisco Victorian that we completely renovated and updated for the new owners. We had it photographed by Paul Keitz and submitted it to the 2012 National Design Awards in the Historic Category.

Custom banding of a wide decorative gimp on this cornice pulls in the wall color while allowing the cornice and sheers to remain neutral. This window sits beneath a soffit, so it is shorter top to bottom than the adjacent cornice to the left, but the decorative trim banding on the bottom keeps them feeling consistent and cohesive. We were hired to select all new fabric, space planning, lighting, and paint colors in this three-story home. Our client decided to do a remodel and to install an elevator to be able to reach all three levels in their forever home located in Redondo Beach, CA.
We selected close to 200 yards of fabric to tell a story and installed all new window coverings, and reupholstered all the existing furniture. We mixed colors and textures to create our traditional Asian theme.
We installed all new LED lighting on the first and second floor with either tracks or sconces. We installed two chandeliers, one in the first room you see as you enter the home and the statement fixture in the dining room reminds me of a cherry blossom.
We did a lot of spaces planning and created a hidden office in the family room housed behind bypass barn doors. We created a seating area in the bedroom and a conversation area in the downstairs.
I loved working with our client. She knew what she wanted and was very easy to work with. We both expanded each other's horizons.

The transformation of this space from a single carport to a fully functional home office space for two was an amazing use of an previously under-utilized area. This homeowner was on a tight budget, so less expensive products that looked high end were employed wherever possible. Recessed panel oak cabinetry was stained a deep espresso color which helped keep the cost down, as well a using a modern Formica laminate countertop as the work surface. Bronze colored mosaic tiles were used to bring some light reflection and color into the workspace.
This space won 2nd Place for Singular Residential Space during the 2010 ASID Arizona South Chapter Design Excellence Awards (Co-designed with James Curran of Curran Interiors) and was featured in Tucson Home Magazine - Spring 2010.
