Ecoscape Environmental Design
Like many homes, the interior kitchen area is set towards the back of the house, and has easy access to the yard. While this might be convenient for getting to the grill, it does not necessary make it an outdoor 'destination place'. Ecoscape's designer re-imagined the space so that a new outdoor kitchen has room for meal preparation and places to sit. Colorful plantings replaced the tired old turf, with a Bloodgood Japanese maple as focal point in the sea of 'golden moneywort'. (The tree is young yet, but sports burgundy red leaves that will turn brilliant scarlet in fall. This maple is the perfect size for this application and will mature to 15-20 feet.)

We placed this sitting area to be in a beautiful view of the upper deck space as the homeowners wished to be able to look out and down on this when not in use. We crafted the outdoor fireplace with granite wood boxes and framed the sitting area with the two small sitting walls.

Southview Design
Sited on the shores of Lake Minnetonka, this backyard was full of potential. Although there was plenty of space, the entertainment area was limited to the deck or the space below. The feeling was disjointed and the homeowners came to Southview looking for a cohesive entertainment space with a sense of flow.

This multipurpose space now gives the homeowners plenty of room to cook, entertain, and relax. The patio space was completed using Sandstone colored Banas Stones pavers. The fireplace and counter space were built using Cultured Stone in Chardonnay Limestone. To make this project come to life we had to remove the existing backyard landscaping, install a concrete base, connect gas lines, and run electric out to the kitchen.
Before the backyard just housed a plain concrete slab where the homeowner kept their patio set. Now, the space has character as well as function. The pavers used in the patio create an artful design and play off the stone used in the counter and fireplace.
