Aralia: Innovation in Landscape Design
A traditional basement garden was created using natural flagstones, iron stairway and arbour, together with trees, climbers and lush planting. A lead water feature, urns and planters all combine to ensure this theme is continued throughout the whole design.

Developing a landscape that complements the home style is paramount. This neo-colonial home features plantings, containers and a traditional brick entry that are in harmony with each other and in rhythm with the house. Astilbe, Hosta, and Rhododendron are featured with large beds of Pachysandra, creating a subtle, yet effective presentation.
Western DuPage Landscaping, Inc.
Since the completion of the home our company has maintained this property. Originally built by a local builder as a speculation home, it was purchased by two busy professionals.
Why is this important? Let's just say the clients are particular and like it when things aren't just so. Both have high level careers, travel often and expect their landscape to be pristine. Year after year our company rises to this challenge.
When originally installed, the builder wanted larger plant material to provide a full and mature look. The continued growth provides a pruning challenge, especially when the client prefers a clean, neat and "compact" landscape. We continually monitor growth and hand prune accordingly, including yearly winter pruning.
The backyard is particularly difficult due to the shade, moisture run-off from neighboring properties. The turf requires constant monitoring and adjustment to the irrigation system. The trees create a mess requiring clean up along with yearly power washing of the stone.
While the challenges are many, the fine maintenance has led to happy clients and numerous referrals.
Pristine Acres
Pristine Acres (www.pristineacres.com) installed this garden. There are hostas and annuals in this photo. The blue is a hydrangea and the purple is Astilbe.

My clients wanted a backyard retreat where they could make the most of their sloping pie shaped lot. We upgraded the gardens under the tree canopy with new focal points and seasonal interest, despite the shade. A new deck with pergola and custom privacy screen to give them a cozy space within a large yard. A pea gravel courtyard, one of the sunniest spots in the backyard created a nook in a previously unused part of the yard which provides a beautiful view of all their gardens.

Part of our design included a number of nature trails through a large forest garden behind the home.

Just recently completed, the boxwood and future planting of groundcovers will fill-in between the stepping stones that surround the birdbath.
