Small garden in Brixton designed for young children and sophisticated enough to link in style with the new kitchen extension/remodelled house. Artificial grass was combined with scented Lavender and Trachleospermum with year round structure from standard Olea (Olive) trees and Magnolia Grandiflora. Cedar slats were used for the fencing to give a clean and modern line. A lovely low maintenance garden!

This garden is a perfect example of contemporary city design for a small space. Two custom built hardwood planters provide some height and depth to the narrow front yard. While the tile walkway is set on a stable concrete base ensuring safe passage in and out of the home in both summer and winter. The private back yard maximizes space by using a custom built hardwood table as both an architectural piece that defines the fire pit area, and an optional servery for larger dining parties. The owners style is very clean and modern and they wanted the same look for the outside as they have inside. Orange and blue are the interior accents. The espalier of Cape Honeysuckle will grow tall behind the Buddah. From inside the blue tiled block contrasts well with the orange flowers of the honeysuckle. Succulents and Agaves fill the bottom. The rest of the plants are muted and calm. We transplanted fruit trees to the sunny wall.

Pro-Land Landscape Construction Inc.Pro-Land Landscape Construction Inc.
The clients contacted Pro-Land shortly after purchasing the home, providing us with a bare landscape ready for construction. In the front yard the clients wanted a simple and elegant flagstone walkway, with some planting for pleasing street presence. To differentiate from other homes in the subdivision, custom aluminum planters were placed on either side of the porch steps, adding a contemporary flare. This client was realistic about their smaller backyard and what they would be able to fit within it. They brought to us the idea of a swim spa, rather than a pool, to allow space to accommodate the other items on their wish list. However, large grade changes between the back door and the ground required a special casing to be built around the spa, allowing it to be flush with the turf. A raised flagstone patio overlooking the spa was built due to the grades as well. It is complimented by a raised ipe deck and privacy screen off the back door of the house, which brings some warmth to the yard.

The backyard was small and uninviting until we transformed it into a comfortable and functional area for entertaining. The front yard was leveled and converted into a play area for two small children and two large dogs. The client is very allergic to bees, so plants were selected with great care.

Pots and planters play an important role in any courtyard. As the aspect is full sun typically hardy species were chosen. Succulents and catci mixed with more hardy tropical plants have proven to handle the conditions which has been important as the client tends to travel for work often for weeks at a time.

Fresh concrete with repeating linear cutouts are planted with Elfin Thyme. A staggered path of limestone tiles will frame a forthcoming sculpture. Crushed salt and pepper quartz complete the low maintenance, low water use look.
