A combination of a functional home office / study and comfortable spare room for guests when they stay. A multifunctional room such as this really benefits from JoineryOne’s bespoke joinery to maximise space and duel functionality requirements. Subtle space saving and storage features include the custom made built in desk and cantilever shelves complete with recessed LED lighting, which is perfect for the home office / study. The guest room features have also been thoughtfully designed and installed by JoineryOne. The custom made bed complete with overhead cantilever shelves and the all important storage drawers under the bed match in perfectly with the room’s study cabinetry and the built-in wardrobe which features space saving recessed handles. The joinery design makes the most of the limited space in the room, providing an inviting space to work and a comfortable space for guests to stay. JoineryOne collaborated with the architect to design, build, supply and fit custom joinery for this home study/ guest room within a comfortable family home in Sydney’s leafy Riverview.

Our client works from home on certain days and wanted a beautiful and inspiring office. We accented the neutral walls with colorful art along with an area rug that matched the tones in the artwork. A comfortable accent chair was selected to mimic the transitional lines of the desk. The chandelier is quite obviously the focal point and adds to the mixed metal elements along with it's feminine lines.

Brittany specified Norcraft Cabinetry’s Gerrit door style in the Divinity White Finish to make the small sized space feel bigger and brighter, but was sure to keep storage and practicality in mind. The wall-to-wall cabinets feature two large file drawers, a trash pullout, a cabinet with easy access to a printer, and of course plenty of storage for design books and other papers. The cabinetry was complete with the Brixton Pull in a Honey Bronze Finish from Top Knobs Hardware for a trendy, contemporary touch. To make the brass hardware feel more cohesive throughout the space, the Dakota style Sconces in a Warm Brass Finish from Savoy House were added above the cabinetry. The sconces provide more light and are the perfect farmhouse accent with a modern touch.

Having a home office can seem like the best of both worlds, but it’s important to keep in mind that this should be a productive space that keeps out the many distractions of home. You may not have the luxury of a dedicated room to turn into your office room or home library, so choose your space wisely to ensure privacy and adequate storage. A carefully designed corner in your living room or an alcove can be made into a productive and stylish study space. Your home office furniture with the desk in the centre of your design, needs to include both work surface space and storage ideas – never underestimate how quickly a computer desk can become cluttered with stationery and box files.

How do I find home office ideas?

For any basic home office or study set up there are just two essential office furniture items: desks and seating. If you will be a frequent home worker then you will also want to invest in nice desk lighting, filing cabinets or bookcases. Desks need to be large enough to accommodate all the tools of your trade. Books are obviously going to feature heavily in your home library design, and you’ll need a place to store them. A bookcase or nice shelving can create room dividers if you don’t have a whole room to dedicate to a home library, and the benefit of bookcases is that they are movable – you don’t have to stick with one layout it it’s not working. If you don’t want to take up space, shelves hung on the walls will work just as well, and if you really want that authentic library feel then you’ll have to go with built in bookshelves that stretch from floor to ceiling. Next all you need is a comfy chair in amongst the books or a desk if you plan to do work or study from your library. Remember that library areas can be slotted in all around the home – under the stairs, in a corner of your living room or kitchen, as a mezzanine or in a small spare room.
