Born & Bred StudioA spacious Victorian semi-detached house nestled in picturesque Harrow on the Hill, undergoing a comprehensive back to brick renovation to cater to the needs of a growing family of six. This project encompassed a full-scale transformation across all three floors, involving meticulous interior design to craft a truly beautiful and functional home.
The renovation includes a large extension, and enhancing key areas bedrooms, living rooms, and bathrooms. The result is a harmonious blend of Victorian charm and contemporary living, creating a space that caters to the evolving needs of this large family.
Silvia Grand InteriorsThe owner of the apartment has been living between Russia and Scotland for the last 10 years. Our goal was to create an environment that exuded maximum comfort and relaxation, like a luxury hotel, but with the character and feel of a home. The owners of the apartment requested the creation of a cheerful vibrant open space for their family and a separate area to host the reception of guests. When a guest stays in their designated area, we wanted to create a feeling that the area is self-contained and did not impose on the rest of the home – meaning they can feel comfortable and relaxed as a guest.
My intention was to keep a modern minimalist feel, maximising the use of the open space. To achieve this effect, I removed the walls between kitchen, the adjacent room and the hallway.
Simon Whitehead ArchitectsSWA completely stripped back and reconfigured the rear of this 1930s property. The focus was to create an industrial inspired design, bringing together an open plan living and dining area. The main focus was maximising light and a feeling of space. This was achieved by installing bespoke glass roof lights and crittal style doors, which created perfect views to the attractive garden. The original brick exterior wall was replicated with modern brick slips which has become a feature wall in a perfect yet modern internal space.
piquA stylish and contemporary rear and side return kitchen extension in East Dulwich. Modern monochrome handle less kitchen furniture has been combined with warm slated wood veneer panelling, a blush pink back painted full height splashback and stone work surfaces from Caesarstone (Cloudburst Concrete). This design cleverly conceals the door through to the utility room and downstairs cloakroom and features bespoke larder storage, a breakfast bar unit and alcove seating.
Jones Britain KitchensWe chose a flat, matt laminate door in a pale grey with matching grey cabinets. The tall larders surround the American Style fridge freezer, housing all food storage at one end of the kitchen. The main worksurfaces with the large sink, Quooker Flex boiling tap, dishwasher and pull out bins, provide ample space for food preparation and the open shelf above keeps all essential accessories easily accessible. Tall cabinets at the end, housing the single ovens and multipurpose storage, balance the overall look in the room without being overpowering so near the dining area.
The island is that central hub with bar stool seating, allowing for comfortable conversation while the meal is being prepared or a quick snack. Plenty of deep drawer storage below for all pots, pans and cutlery keep them in that central zone. The beautiful, veined quartz worksurfaces, including book matched end panels on the island, bring that touch of luxury and detail which compliments the grey green paint used on the accent wall. The Myers TouchIn collaboration with the client’s architect, AR Design the layout of the kitchen was already in place. However, upon meeting the client it was clear she wanted a ‘wow’ island, symmetry in design and plenty of functional storage.
As well as a contemporary, family-friendly space it was also important the space that still respected the heritage of the house. The original walls of the property had many angled walls and featured some tight spaces, so careful consideration of SieMatic's cabinetry choices was given to ensure maximum functionality in those spaces. After much consideration, The Myers Touch specified SieMatic’s SC10 Cabinetry in a Provence Oak Laminate finish which was placed in a framed-style at the rear wall.
The same cabinetry was specified for under the island to create contrast with the new and original material features in the space. In order for the family to keep the kitchen uncluttered, careful planning of internal storage systems was considered in the form of using SieMatic’s internal Drawer boxes and their MultiMatic internal storage system which were used to store smaller items such as spices and sauces, as well whilst providing space for slide-out drawers and storage baskets.
To ensure an elegant yet ‘wow’ factor central island, The Myers Touch combined contrasting textures by using 30mm Silestone Eternal Calacatta natural stone, polished worktops with ‘waterfall island’ edges and a Corian solid surface back panel. The distinctive geometric patterned Corian panel in Cameo White looks particularly spectacular at night when the owner's turn on the architectural-toned lighting under the island.
Appliances chosen for the island included a sophisticated Elica Illusion extractor hood so it could be totally integrated in the new architectural space without visual distraction, a Siemens iQ500 Induction Hob with touch-slide control and a Caple Under-counter Wine cabinet.
To maximise every inch of the new space, and to ensure the owners had a place for everything, The Myers Touch also used additional cabinetry and storage options in the island such as extra deep drawers to store saucepans, cutlery, and everyday crockery.
The eye-catching Antique-bronze mirrored splashback not only helps to provide the illusion of extra space, but reinforces family ‘togetherness’ as it reflects and links the rear of the kitchen ‘snug’ area where family members can sit and relax or work when not in the main kitchen extension area.
The original toned brickwork and 18th Century steel windows in the original part of the extension also helps to tell the story about the older part of the house which now juxtaposes to the new, contemporary kitchen living extension. A handy door was also included in the extension which leads to the garage on the main road for family convenience and over-flow storage.
