The family room serves a similar function in the home to a living room: it's a gathering place for everyone to convene and relax together at the end of the day. That said, there are some differences. Family rooms are more relaxed spaces, and tend to be more kid-friendly. It's also a newer concept that dates to the mid-century. Historically, the family room is the place to let your hair down and get comfortable. This is the room where you let guests rest their feet on the ottoman and cozy up with a blanket on the couch.

Both the couch and ottoman were upholstered in authentic mid century fabrics, and ottoman has leather top. Couch was built to chair height to have dual use, serving as a banquette. When company comes over, table can easily be moved to couch. Custom rug design by www.MaleneB.com. Client got to go to designer's studio and select design and color way personally. Rug hand-constructed of Bamboo Silk and Wool.

Vintage trifft Moderne – in einem gemütlichen 1-Zimmer-Apartment in Berlin. Mit zurückhaltenden Farben, die harmonisch von weiß, über grau ins blau übergehen, liegt der Fokus ganz auf den schönen mid-century Möbeln. Das Sideboard des Designers Jiří Jiroutek ist ein richtiger Eye-Catcher und gibt dem Wohnraum Wärme. Dagegen bestechen die Navrátil Stühle und der Tulip-Tisch durch ihre dezente Eleganz. Eingefasst in Blau verliert das Doppelbett seine Größe und verwandelt sich in eine gemütliche Schlafecke. Die Küche wurde von uns komplett neugestaltet – modern und hell. Hier wurde die blaue Wandfarbe in Akzenten über den Regalen wieder aufgegriffen und bietet den perfekten Hintergrund für das eigene Lieblingsgeschirr. Ein neuer Linoleumboden mit feiner Struktur rundet das Gesamtbild ab. In allen Räumen haben wir uns bei der Beleuchtung für vintage Einzelstücke entschieden. Luxury Midcentury Games Room Ideas and Designs

If you’re lucky enough to have more than one reception room then you have a bit more freedom when deciding what to do with your secondary space. Families with children or just young-at-heart adults could opt for a family room or midcentury games room; whether it’s a pool or snooker table room, a comfy relaxation or TV area, a video games haven, a playroom packed with toys or a sports room with accompanying bar. Usually midcentury games rooms are naturally fun, recreational spaces so it’s important that the furnishings are functional but enjoyable with an emphasis on comfort, storage, games and entertainment. If you have the scope, family room extensions are a great way of extending from your kitchen or other area of your house to create a whole new, dedicated family space or midcentury games room. Basements are also wonderfully suited to house games rooms as they are usually soundproof and secluded so that loud games, films and cheers of success or failure won’t be heard next door or upstairs. This should be a relaxing place that promotes fun and socialisation, so fill the room with comfortable seating. Plush armchairs, wide sofas, bean bags and reclining chairs are all great games room ideas that promote R&R. Add coffee tables and side tables for holding glasses and plates (if they’re allowed), books, magazines and all the other knick-knacks that accumulate in a family room. TV stands or media units are great for keeping DVDs, audio systems, gaming consoles and all other gadgetry neat and organised. A cosy rug will be a great addition but make sure it doesn’t easily slip under fast moving feet! Snooker, billiards and pool tables will keep competitive spirits busy but if you don’t have the room, table football could be a more suitable option. Fill the room with features your family love – films, board games, books, music and perhaps sports memorabilia. Keep decor functional and practical – pristine white upholstery and rugs are probably not the ticket for the hustle and bustle of a games or family room.
