This room used to be the garage and was restored to its former glory as part of a whole house renovation and extension.

Our clients wanted a space where they could relax, play music and read. The room is compact and as professors, our clients enjoy to read. The challenge was to accommodate over 800 books, records and music. The space had not been touched since the 70’s with raw wood and bent shelves, the outcome of our renovation was a light, usable and comfortable space. Burnt oranges, blues, pinks and reds to bring is depth and warmth. Bespoke joinery was designed to accommodate new heating, security systems, tv and record players as well as all the books. Our clients are returning clients and are over the moon!
McGinley's Cabinets & Carpentry
Custom-made joinery and media wall designed and fitted by us for a family in Harpenden after moving into this new home.
Looking to make the most of the large living room area they wanted a place to relax as well as storage for a large book collection.
A media wall was built to house a beautiful electric fireplace finished with alcove units and floating shelves with LED lighting features.
All done with solid American white oak and spray finished doors on soft close blum hinges.

This media room also offers plenty of space for a small office area. Black-out fabric lines the block-color custom window treatments and echos the paint stripe that moves around the room.

Photo by Bruce Frame. Working with a neutral palette, the red in the clients' own art and accent pieces really pops and balances the custom wall unit very well. The subtle animal print on the chairs and ottomans keep the room from feeling cold or bland.

This living room started out with dusty rose carpeting and walls and a mish mash of cheap furniture. It needed a complete overhaul. The first step was to identify the room's purpose. While technically it is a living room, it is connected via open space to the dining room, kitchen, and family room...thus, it was really more of an extension of the most used, common areas of the home. It was also the first room that visitors see when entering the home, and thus, it needed to be beautiful. While the space is more refined than the other common areas of the home, it is still relaxed enough to be used everyday, and it is. It's TV is used regularly to watch the big sporting events of the week and its also a cozy place with comfortable, oversize chairs and sofas to curl up and read a book or play a card game by the gas fireplace. Wall to wall custom built-in cabinetry and mantle were designed and installed that create a beautiful focal point for the room. Tracey Ayton Photography
