Tying multiple floors together using 6”x36” dark grey wood-looking tile, laid on a staggered patterned worked well with the tile and concrete floors next to it. Two-toned cabinetry of wired brushed hickory with a grey stain wash, combined with maple wood in a dark slate finish is a current trend. Counter tops: combination of splashy granite and white Caesarstone grounded the display. A custom-designed table of ash wood, with heavy distressing and grey washed stain added warmth. Show custom features: Arched glass door cabinets with crown moulding to match. Unique Features: drawer in drawer for pot lids, pull out drawer in toe kick for dog dishes, toe space step stool, swing up mixer shelf, pull out spice storage. Built in Banquette seating with table and docking station for family meals and working. Custom open shelves and wine rack with detailed legs anchor the three sides of the island. Backsplash rail with spice rack, knife and utensil holder add more storage space. A floating soffit matches the shape of island and helps lower the showroom ceiling height to what would be found in a normal home. It includes: pendant lights for the snack bar, chandelier for the table and recess for task lights over the sink. The large triangular shaped island has eleven foot legs. It fills the unusual space and creates three separate areas: a work space, snack bar/room divider and table area.

ASID award for kitchen design. In a corner that usually holds a lazy susan cabinet, we used chevron drawers. A much better choice and easier access for a homeowner with back problems.

A family of five, who lives in a prestigious McLean neighborhood, was looking to renovate and upgrade their 20-year-old kitchen. Goals of the renovation were to move the cooktop out of the island, install all professional-quality appliances, achieve better traffic flow and update the appearance of the space. The plan was to give a French country look to this kitchen, by carrying the overall soft and creamy color scheme of main floor furniture in the new kitchen. As such, the adjacent family room had to become a significant part of the remodel. The back wall of the kitchen is now occupied by 48” professional range under a custom wood hood. A new tower style refrigerator covered in matching wood panels is placed at the end of the run, just create more work space on both sides of the stove. The large contrasting Island in a dark chocolate finish now offers a second dishwasher, a beverage center and built in microwave. It also serves as a large buffet style counter space and accommodate up to five seats around it. The far wall of the space used to have a bare wall with a 36” fireplace in it. The goal of this renovation was to include all the surrounding walls in the design. Now the entire wall is made of custom cabinets, including display cabinetry on the upper half. The fireplace is wrapped with a matching color mantel and equipped with a big screen TV. Smart use of detailed crown and trim molding are highlights of this space and help bring the two rooms together, as does the porcelain tile floor. The attached family room provides a casual, comfortable space for guest to relax. And the entire space is perfect for family gatherings or entertaining.

The kitchen layout was reconfigured once the sunroom opening was widened. The range was given a place of special significance, and the sink in the island creates a compact work circle.

We developed a new, more functional floor plan by removing the wall between the kitchen and laundry room. All walls in the new kitchen space were taken down to their studs. New plumbing, electrical, and lighting were installed and a new gas line was relocated. The exterior laundry room door was changed to a window. All new energy saving windows were installed. A new tankless, energy efficient water heater replaced the old one, which was installed, more appropriately on an exterior wall. We installed the new sink and faucet under the windows but moved the range to the west end wall. In working with the existing exterior and interior door locations, we placed the microwave/oven combination on the wall between these doors. At the dining room doorway, the new 42” refrigerator begins the run of tall storage with a pantry. As you turn the corner, the new washer and dryer are now situated under new upper cabinets. Seating is provided at the end of the granite counter in front of the window to maximize and create an efficient work space. The finishes were chosen to add color and keep the design in the same time period as the house. Custom colored ceramic tiles at the range wall reflect the homeowner’s love of flowers: these are complimented with the tile back splash that continues along the length of peacock green granite. The cork floor was chosen to blend with the adjacent oak floors and provide a comfortable surface throughout the year. The white shaker style cabinets provide a neutral background to compliment the new finishes and the owner’s decorative pieces which show nicely behind the seed-glass cabinet doors. Task lighting was installed under the cabinets and recessed LED lights were placed for function in the ceiling. The owner’s antique lights were installed over the sink area to reflect her interest in antiques. An outdated, small and difficult kitchen and laundry room were made into a beautiful and functional space that will provide many years of service and enjoyment to this family in their home.

The existing 3000 square foot colonial home was expanded to more than double its original size. The end result was an open floor plan with high ceilings, perfect for entertaining, bathroom for every bedroom, closet space, mudroom, and unique details ~ all of which were high priorities for the homeowner. Transitional/Spanish Kitchen -Although this was a great space to work with the client had many requirements which took quite of bit of planning to fulfill. And though he changed from a more Traditional style to a more Contemporary version in the middle of the project we were able to create a beautiful Transitional space that is uniquely his.
