This Mid Century inspired kitchen was manufactured for a couple who definitely didn't want a traditional 'new' fitted kitchen as part of their extension to a 1930's house in a desirable Manchester suburb. The walk in pantry was fitted into a bricked up recess previously occupied by a range. This Victorian old house from the beginning of the previous century had to keep its exterior look, but the interior went through a dramatic change and brought it into our era. The first floor of the house was completely transformed into a huge open space, which by doing that already gave it a modern feeling around. The use of modern laminate door style in different colors had emphasized the contemporary style that was brought in with so much elegancy together with the light wood floors and light counter tops. The island was given a sculpture look to create a nice focal point for the kitchen where the cooking preparation is mostly taking place at. Door Style Finish: Alno Look, laminate door style, in the graphite, yellow and magnolia white colors finish.

This exciting bespoke design was created in collaboration with our client, Interior Design consultant Taylor Smith, who wished to relocate his kitchen to the dining room of his spectacular period home. Our brief was to work around the period features to design a central kitchen which would appear as if a contemporary art installation or ‘pod’ had landed in the middle of this beautiful character filled room. In order to provide a fully functioning kitchen within this centralised design we installed Fisher and Paykel dishwasher drawers, Hotpoint fridge drawers, three BORA hobs, two BORA extractors and a sink with customized Quooker within one side of the large 4 metre island. On the opposite side the client’s desire for the appearance of art was created through the use of metallic bronze panels with a patina finish which we sourced and used to front the run of push opening drawers with walnut interiors. In keeping with the centralised brief, the Miele oven stack was positioned on the middle back wall and surrounded by two glass fronted larder cupboards and four cabinets. LED lighting has been installed within the cabinets and also beneath the Silestone Quartz worktop so that the look of the kitchen evolves from daytime through to night. Custom made brass handles complete the design.

This tiny kitchen located on the Main Line is hidden within an orginal old farmhouse in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania. This gorgeous kitchen is not only charming, it also has very clean modern lines and elements. The clients selected the classic white, painted shaker cabinets from Fabuwood Cabinetry. The selection of all white materials, including a traditional white subway tile, white quartz countertops, and a simple white shaker door style gives this kitchen the sleek, modern style. The old laminate floor was removed to expose the beautiful, orginal hardwood floors that were refinsihed to bring out the more traditional, rustic farmhouse look. Although this kitchen is small, the white cabinets and finishes give the illusion that the space is much larger. This cozy kitchen is elegant, clean and stunning. The design kept the style of the kitchen true to the farmhouse style of the home while also adding a touch of modern to complete the design.

You can add a breakfast bar or counter to your existing kitchen units, or stick with a good old-fashioned dining table if you don’t need the extra work surfaces. There are a huge variety of island designs to cater to different needs – you can have sinks, ovens, hobs, wine storage and all sorts of drawers and organisers built-in, you can have separate bars and counters that extend from your island, or you could go for a kitchen island on wheels to make your kitchen layout more versatile.

How do I choose my kitchen units and cabinets?

It’s always best to overestimate how much kitchen storage you’ll need as we all tend to have a habit of filling up whatever current space we have to the maximum. Next you can consider kitchen cabinet style and colour. Shaker style cabinets and raised and recessed panel cabinets offer a more traditional kitchen cabinet look, while flat panel cabinet doors tend to lend more to the modern and contemporary style. However, going for raised or recessed panel work in a striking colour such as dark blue, green or black can still work with contemporary kitchen ideas. White kitchens can give a sleek and clean feel, but remember you may have to do a bit more cleaning of those cupboard doors if you want everything to stay shiny and fresh. Of course, grey kitchens are the neutral colour choice du jour and can be paired with pale and rich shades alike if you want your fitted kitchen cupboards to contrast with your worktop, splashback, floor, or all of the above.
