It is sometimes a surprise what beauty can lurk under the surface of a room. A client with a 1970s kitchen and eat-in area cut up by an unwieldy peninsula was desperate for it to reflect her love of all things English-and-French-Manor-Home. Working closely with my client, we removed the peninsula in favor of a lovely free-standing island that we painted a shade of French Blue. This is topped with Old World sink hardware (note the ceramic HOT and COLD medallions on the faucets!) and a gorgeous marble counter with a very special edge profile that evokes an antique French Boulangerie counter from the 1910s. Pendants with patinaed metal shades over the island further the charming Old World feel. Handmade white and blue tiles laid in a quilted diamond pattern cover the backsplash, and the remainder of the cabinetry at the perimeter is in a warm cream tone. The eat-in near the fireplace got a cozy treatment with custom seat cushions and window seat bench cushions in a classic blue-and-white Toile de Jouy matching the island stools. The nearby living room got a similar treatment. We removed dark wood paneling and dark carpeting in favor of a light sky blue wall and lighter wood flooring. A new rug with the appearance of an heirloom, a new grand-scaled sofa, and some of my client’s precious antiques helped take the room from 70s rec room to English Sitting Room. Елена Комиссарова, дизайнер интерьера: Когда я приступила к проекту, особых пожеланий по стилю у хозяев не было. Я видела, что это люди, которые любят принимать гостей, хозяйка обожает цветы и ухаживает за приусадебным участком. Мне захотелось впустить в дом природу, ее цвета и фактуры. Именно прованс и кантри полностью отвечали нашим задачам, поэтому первый же эскизный проект и предложенное мной цветовое решение сразу понравились хозяевам. От прованса здесь светлая гамма, растительный орнамент в обоях и текстиле, много разного дерева - как натурального (например, столовая группа), так и его искусной имитации, например, плитка под дерево в санузле и напольное покрытие. Здесь много естественного света, второй свет в зоне лестницы и даже в ванной есть окно. Конечно, в интерьере нет в чистом виде прованса, кантри и классики. Все они представлены намеками, нюансами, объединенными за счет цветовой гаммы и пересекающихся черт этих стилей. Например, в ванной мебель “Икеа”, это, конечно, не кантри, но в ней есть дух этого стиля. Светлая мебель на кухне, окно, выходящее в сад, скатерть с вышивкой, много различного декора, цветов в вазах и кашпо, конечно, тоже не чистый прованс, но благодаря использованным приемам его присутствие здесь ощущается довольно явственно. По периметру на потолках везде пущены белые молдинги, на кухне светлые рамочные фасады - это уже отсылка к классике. В общем, вовсе не обязательно четко соблюдать все необходимые черты стилей, которые вам нравятся, можно их перемешивать и добавлять детали, которые вам интересны. This transitional kitchen designed by Curtis Lumber Co., Inc has a beachy feel. The inspiration behind the design is the spectacular view of the lake and this kitchen really flatters the view. The homeowners wanted an oversize island, perfect for entertaining family and friends. The second island serves as a breakfast spot where they can enjoy the lake view. The cabinetry is Merillat Masterpiece, painted Maple in Dove White. The Countertops are Cambria quartz; the perimeter in Winterbourne™ and the Islands in Montgomery™. The kitchen is equipped with accessories including: a K-Cup® organizer, pull-out spice rack, pull out utensil insert, storage for pots and pans, roll out trash cans and a large walk-in pantry featuring a custom door from Reeb. The Transolid 16-gauge stainless steel undermount sink is from the Diamond Series. The tray ceiling really makes an impact. A brand new home is an opportunity to create from scratch and showcase the client’s style. This beautiful home backs onto the golf course providing gorgeous views while standing at the kitchen sink. The inspiration started from the helix mullion glass door cabinets. Careful attention to detail was given to create the layering of mouldings between the doors, crown, trims and base. Creating a streamline space was a necessity with a large kitchen. The distance between the fridge and sink is greater than normal but having a small sink on the island is incredibly helpful for preparation of meals. The follow of design between the kitchen and butler’s pantry was also important, and, was achieved with the use of helix doors.

The desire for a bright, open-plan kitchen initially drew the owners of this attractive property to explore ideas for an orangery extension. Their house had a long narrow kitchen with a small dining table at one end and utility at the other, but they had visions of a large, classic styled kitchen and living space that offered modern functionality and comfort. They wanted to be able to prepare supper, dine together and then relax in the evenings, all in the same space. However, there are now lots of pull out compartments and drawers with trays and shelving that can act as mini kitchen pantries, and you can install handy cupboard organisers that fit onto the inside of the door to make the most of your cupboard space. You can also look at corner drawers and cupboards that open up to reveal lots of extra storage.
