We are proud to present this breath-taking kitchen design that blends traditional and modern elements to create a truly unique and personal space. Upon entering, the Crittal-style doors reveal the beautiful interior of the kitchen, complete with a bespoke island that boasts a curved bench seat that can comfortably seat four people. The island also features seating for three, a Quooker tap, AGA oven, and a rounded oak table top, making it the perfect space for entertaining guests. The mirror splashback adds a touch of elegance and luxury, while the traditional high ceilings and bi-fold doors allow plenty of natural light to flood the room. The island is not just a functional space, but a stunning piece of design as well. The curved cupboards and round oak butchers block are beautifully complemented by the quartz worktops and worktop break-front. The working island features a prep sink and faces a Wolf 48” range and custom stainless steel hood with nickel strapping and rivet details. The eating island is differentiated by arched brackets and polished stainless steel boots on the elevated legs. A neutral, veined Quartzite for the islands and perimeter countertops was paired with a herringbone, ceramic tile backsplash, and rift oak textured cabinetry for style. Intelligent design features walnut drawer interiors and pull-out drawers for spices and condiments, along with another for lid storage. After living in downtown Chicago their whole lives, these clients were ready for a change of pace. So, they retired and purchased a home near the lake, of course! They both love to cook, and were excited to host big family gatherings. In other words, a full kitchen remodel was in order. The full bath on the main level also needed a complete overhaul. Design Objectives: -Open the kitchen to adjacent family room to create a better space for entertaining -Upgrade appliances and ventilation -Plenty of storage for an extensive collection of cookware and small appliances -Create a dedicated space for baking and pizza making Include a large island for gathering -Select finishes that bring the outdoors in -Create a classic beach vibe with NO white cabinetry! Include tile flooring to flow from laundry room to bathroom to kitchen, while complementing existing hardwood floors -Create direct access to bathroom from laundry room (so family coming from the beach don’t track sand throughout the house) Design Challenges: -Omitting wall between kitchen and family room left very little wall space for cabinetry and appliances -Providing plenty of storage and work surfaces for avid cooks/bakers -Replace existing hardwood with stone floor tile that complements existing hardwood floors as well as cabinetry finishes Design Solutions: -Creating two islands was a key design decision. The large island is for cooking and gathering. The smaller island is for baking and pizza making -Placing the range in the island created a very effective layout for this kitchen -Adding a pocket door from the bath to the laundry room created a direct path for sandy kids and adults alike THE RENEWED KITCHEN AND MORE The finished space feels open and welcoming for the homeowners, their friends and family. The kitchen functions as well for two as it does for a crowd.

This beautiful kitchen was remodeled for a growing family in the Chicago suburbs. As they were purchasing a new home, they realized there were many drawbacks to the kitchen. It needed to be redesigned to meet their lifestyle and it made sense to do it before moving in. It was a large kitchen but the functional work space was very small. The work triangle was cumbersome and traffic flowed right through it. The existing kitchen had new red oak floors. They were beautiful, but dark red floors just aren’t practical for a growing family with dogs. THE REMODEL The first thing we did was redesign the space and reorient the layout with two islands. Incorporating a built-in banquette, instead of a table, freed up plenty of room for them. The islands are strategically placed in the opposite direction of the previous layout’s single island. This not only creates a better view from the family room, it keeps the traffic flow out of the work area while facilitating two separate workspaces. The small island incorporates a new prep sink. It’s right across from the cooking area, which is a new focal point with a gorgeous new metal hood. The larger island incorporates a Galley Workstation with accessories for efficient prep, expediting and serving. The 4′ sink makes post-meal clean-up a breeze. The butler’s pantry just outside the kitchen was large enough to create a new beverage center for morning coffee and cocktail prep. An ice maker was added to this area but there wasn’t enough room for a new wine cooler and refrigerator drawers. A separate area using previously unused space was added to the kitchen (by the table) – it includes a new wine cooler and cold beverage drawers. This is framed nicely with some glass door cabinets and a lighted open niche above for decorative display. STRATEGIC DESIGN A combination of colors and finishes highlight different focal points in the kitchen – this includes a slate blue, a soft grey and a light whitewashed stain on rift-cut oak. The stained white oak makes the wine cooler and refrigeration areas look more like furniture pieces instead of kitchen cabinets. The floors were refinished with a very light grey stain that enabled us to lighten up the color and get the red out of the finish. A new ceiling was designed to add architectural detail to the space – it includes three separate tray areas with new crown molding and lighting. THE RENEWED SPACE This stunning new kitchen is the perfect fit for the family and their home – the finishes and design elements flow beautifully into the adjoining spaces. It fulfills all of the family’s dreams for a beautiful and comfortable space that is functional and versatile.
