This timeless and functional kitchen is full of custom cabinets, large appliance panels, and even a stylish and functional ladder. Outfitted with a scullery, a drink station, and a mudroom, this transformation put a spin on the classics in their bright, modern kitchen flip. With time-traveling pieces like a functional sliding ladder for out-of-reach storage and a drink station reminiscent of an old-fashioned hotel bar, it takes accent pieces like geometric pendant lighting to return us to the modern day.

We juxtaposed bold colors and contemporary furnishings with the early twentieth-century interior architecture for this four-level Pacific Heights Edwardian. The home's showpiece is the living room, where the walls received a rich coat of blackened teal blue paint with a high gloss finish, while the high ceiling is painted off-white with violet undertones. Against this dramatic backdrop, we placed a streamlined sofa upholstered in an opulent navy velour and companioned it with a pair of modern lounge chairs covered in raspberry mohair. An artisanal wool and silk rug in indigo, wine, and smoke ties the space together.

The sophisticated wine library adjacent to the kitchen provides a cozy spot for friends and family to gather to share a glass of wine or to catch up on a good book. The striking dark blue cabinets showcase both open and closed storage cabinets and also a tall wine refrigerator that stores over 150 bottles of wine. The quartz countertop provides a durable bar top for entertaining, while built in electrical outlets provide the perfect spot to plug in a blender. Comfortable swivel chairs and a small marble cocktail table creates an intimate seating arrangement for visiting with guests or for unwinding with a good book. The 11' ceiling height and the large picture window add a bit of drama to the space, while an elegant sisal rug keeps the room from being too formal.

A young family moving from NYC tackled a makeover of their young colonial revival home to make it feel more personal. The kitchen area was quite spacious but needed a facelift and a banquette for breakfast. Painted cabinetry matched to Benjamin Moore’s Light Pewter is balanced by Benjamin Moore Ocean Floor on the island. Mixed metals on the lighting by Allied Maker, faucets and hardware and custom tile by Pratt and Larson make the space feel organic and personal. Photos Adam Macchia. We took out an office in opening up the floor plan of this renovation. We designed this home bar complete with sink and beverage fridge which serves guests in the family room and living room. The mother of pearl penny round backsplash catches the light and echoes the coastal theme.
