This crushed stone path leads to lush hosta, ferns and heucheras, that provide abundant sensory pleasure punctuated at its end with an endearing garden niche. In addition, a raised, circular fountain and wrought iron bench serve as the perfect spot to contempate the good things in life. Photos courtesy Solow Design Group

Evergreens were planted as a privacy screen from a neighboring apartment house. A combination of color and texture create a casual border, rather than a formal hedge, along the property line.

Regionally native trees and shrubs including white pine, amalanchier, mt. laurel and barren strawberry soften cedar fence panels which are staggered along the property line to provide privacy but allow for wildlife passage. Angela Kearney Minglewood Designs

Dark Delight New Zealand Flax were left in place from the previous garden, underplanted with Pork and Beans Sedum ground cover, which will develop blushes of red and brown in the summer. A few California poppy seeds blew in during the installation. They're welcome for now, but could overtake other plants in time. photo by Billy Goodnick

New York Plantings Garden DesignNew York Plantings Garden Design
The concept by NY landscape architect of informal penthouse garden deck that a few friends getting together at a Hamptons beach cottage with a few beers, building a deck, plywood planters and indigenous plantings was built by New York Plantings Garden Designers and Landscape contractors NYC. This Greenroof fusion rooftop deck and garden combine the traditional planters typical of any roof or terrace garden with a green roof style real sod lawn in the center. This Brooklyn roof garden utilizing environmentally responsible materials such as custom milled black locust decking from nearby Long Island. This user friendly, low maintenance green space provides a perfect get away from the busy streets below. The carpentry design is rugged and tidy with concrete roof tiles to create a very nice effect and contrast different areas. The main feature being a small hillock in the center of the space is a great place to gather on the lawn with friends and family. The homeowner plans to watch movies projected on the side of the building while lounging on her private lawn late at night high above the city.
