Our client had a 1930’s two car garage and a dream. He wanted a private light filled home office, enough space to have friends over to watch the game, storage for his record collection and a place to listen to music on the most impressive stereo we’ve ever seen. So we took on the challenge to design the ultimate man cave: we peeled away layers of the wall and folded them into casework - a workstation with drawers, record shelving with storage below for less aesthetic items, a credenza with a coffee setup and requisite bourbon collection, and a cabinet devoted to cleaning and preserving records. We peeled up the roof as well creating a new entry and views out into the bucolic garden. The addition of a full bathroom and comfy couch make this the perfect place to chill…with or without Netflix.

HOW WE WORK Inside Out Oxford extends your home with distinctive creative spaces in your garden for work and play, taking your inside outside. Inside Out Oxford is a fusion of construction art and fine carpentry headed up by artist Walter Cundy of Liscious Interiors and Jim Gabriel of Gabriel Projects. Delivering only bespoke and therefore utterly unique projects, Walter’s passion is to make the ordinary extraordinary, and Jim’s is to craft the extraordinary out of wood. At Inside Out Oxford, we work with you every step of the way because your requirements and dreams are the inspiration for our designs. From the very first conversation, Inside Out Oxford strives to make your dream achievable. After the initial interviews we will draw for you how we propose to build your new creative space, allowing you to visualize the project from beginning to end. This can vary from illustrations of the finished building to detailed cutaway diagrams of the structure. Most projects cycle through the drawing and design stage a number of times, taking the initial ideas and refining the plans until you are happy with every detail of the design.

Having a contemporary home office can seem like the best of both worlds, but it’s important to keep in mind that this should be a productive space that keeps out the many distractions of home. Remember that contemporary library areas can be slotted in all around the home – under the stairs, in a corner of your living room or kitchen, as a mezzanine or in a small spare room.
