Ryan Associates Landscape Architecture & PlanningA new fieldstone wall was built in front of an existing wall to form a ramp that leads from the lower to the upper yard.
Terraced into a hillside, this home and its gardens are intertwined with the remnants of a house and garden that existed previously on the site. Three major spaces are defined in the landscape: an autocourt framed with a hornbeam hedge, a dining and entertaining terrace with built-in kitchen sheltered by stone retaining walls, and a great lawn extending from the terrace. Set within the remnant foundations of the previous home, the great lawn is stitched into the fabric of the garden by an elegant grass ramp from the terrace.

Western Red Cedar Slatted Screen fences provide the sought-after look without restricting light or privacy. Retaining walls in the front, complete with young perennials that will quickly grow to create a lush, multi-textured frame around the house, immediately create subtle lines and visual interest in front. The beautifully hardscaped backyard creates outdoor rooms, ideal for entertaining outside and making the most of a limited space. This fresh and new landscape will mature beautifully as the perennials continue to grow!

The front landscape brief was a coordinating space with curb appeal that could also double as an enclosed lawn area for their dog. Low custom metal fencing provides the enclosure and adding a layer of horizontal interest. Stone & concrete retaining walls mimic the house materials for continuity.
In the rear - custom metal screens and corten planters provide privacy and detail and keep the focus on the beautiful lake view.
