A DEANE client returned in 2022 for an update to their kitchen remodel project from 2006. This incredible transformation was driven by the desire to create a glamorous space for entertaining. Taking the space that used to be an office, walls were taken down to allow the new bar and tasting table to be integrated into the kitchen and living area. A climate-controlled glass wine cabinet with knurled brass handles elegantly displays bottles and defines the space while still allowing it to feel light and airy. The bar boasts door-style “wave” cabinets in high-gloss black lacquer that seamlessly conceal beverage and bottle storage drawers and an ice maker. The open shelving with integrated LED lighting and satin brass edging anchor the marble countertop.

As with the rest of the house, gold and brass tones beautifully accent black cabinetry in this wet bar, though in this case the golden hue comes out through the vibrant metallic backsplash. Matte black slab doors and smoky black glass upper cabinet doors add depth, dimension, and style to this single wall prep space. A beverage sink keeps drinks cool and refreshing, while a long open shelf keeps glasses within easy reach. And of course, no wet bar is complete without an appropriately sized beverage sink - this one an undermount with matte black hardware. Edge pulls keep the main hardware of this cabinetry streamlined and inconspicuous but easy to use.

This is the home bar and the shelved arches behind it. There is one deep arch and two smaller arches on either side, these have smoked mirrors on the back and glass shelves. The bar is made of walnut and brass inlays with a black carrara marble top. The arches all have LED lighting around them.

Whether your home bar ideas would be having the boys round to watch the big match in a pub-style atmosphere on a Saturday afternoon, ‘going uptown’ to sip an espresso martini in your home cocktail bar in the loft, or hoping to recreate the vibe of an intimate speakeasy in your basement, a style home bar is a treat that’s guaranteed to lift your spirits. A place where you are always guaranteed a seat.

How big should my home bar be?

The ideal style of your home bar will depend on your lifestyle and entertaining habits as well as the amount of available space. If big groups come round regularly then you should consider dedicating a part of your living room or basement to a larger seating area – complete with a bar table, bar stools and wet bar section – to keep everyone suitably comfortable and merry. If TV is essential, check if there is a wall nearby that’s a big enough to mount it on without restricting anyone’s view.
